High school students to compete in Top of Texas Contest & Expo at AC
High school students from throughout the Texas Panhandle are expected to converge on Amarillo College’s East Campus to showcase their work and compete for prizes at the Top of Texas Career & Technical Education Expo.
The event is today (May 1) and Friday, May 2. The East Campus is located at 1502 B Ave (google maps AC East Campus Building V).
On-site contests will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. Competitive categories include Construction – Carpentry, Tool ID, Material ID, Cutting for Accuracy, Welding – Intermediate, Advanced, Metal Projects, Metal Sculpture, Woodworking Project, Wood and Metal Projects, CNC projects and Auto Collision.
Vendor booths and a job fair will be the focus on May 2 – from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the general public is invited to attend. Special demonstrations will be featured, and tours of AC’s technical education programs will be offered.
The event will conclude with an awards ceremony at 1 p.m. on May 2.
The two-day Expo will have activities in the Manufacturing Education Center, Student Service Center, Public Service Building, the Truck Driving Center, the Auto Collision Center, and the Aviation Center.
The vendor booths/career fair on May 2 will take place in the Student Service Center Gym.
Students from area high schools include: AmTech, Tascosa, Canyon, Canyon ISD Career Technology Academy, Randall, West Plains, Hereford, Pampa, Tulia, Bovina, and Lockney and others will be involved in individual and team projects and on-site challenges and demonstrations.
Student projects will reflect the skills they have acquired in such areas as woodworking, welding, communications, robotics, paint and body, and more.
