Amarillo Public Library and Panhandle PBS to Host “Finding Your Roots: A Genealogy Open House”

The Amarillo Public Library, Amarillo Genealogical Society, and Panhandle PBS will host “Finding Your Roots: A Genealogy Open House” from 4:30–6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30 at the Downtown Library.This free, come-and-go event invites community members to explore the Downtown Library’s extensive genealogical resources while enjoying selected Season 12 episodes of the PBS series Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr.

Panhandle PBS Highlights Senior Hunger Awareness with “Broken Bread” Series 

Panhandle PBS will mark April as Senior Hunger Awareness Month with a month-long focus on programming, digital content, and community engagement centered on its original series, “Broken Bread: Examining Senior Food Insecurity in the Texas Panhandle.”The multi-part series explores the causes, regional disparities, and wide-ranging impacts of food insecurity among older adults across the Texas Panhandle. Through personal stories, expert insights, and local solutions, “Broken Bread” aims to raise awareness while encouraging meaningful community action.

Panhandle PBS Set to Premiere “Cadillac Ranch” Documentary

Art and rhythm will collide as Panhandle PBS prepares for the inaugural screening of its original documentary, Cadillac Ranch. Titled 10 Cadillacs, 10 Movements, 1 Stunning Performance, the film explores the Amarillo Symphony’s commissioned orchestral work inspired by one of the most iconic landmarks in Texas.

Panhandle PBS Contributes to Community Engagement for Stations Nationwide

Panhandle PBS is proud to have contributed to the development of PBS’s newly launched Community Engagement Learning Path, a comprehensive professional development program now available to public media stations across the country through Public Media Learns.Created by the PBS Immersive Learning Team and the PBS Programming Engagement Team in partnership with Nine PBS, the Community Engagement Learning Path and companion guidebook were designed as evergreen resources to help stations strengthen their engagement strategies, build meaningful partnerships, and better serve their communities.

Panhandle PBS Earns National Awards for Local Film & Community Outreach

Panhandle PBS has earned national recognition for both its powerful local storytelling and innovative community engagement, receiving honors at the National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA) Public Media Awards, which celebrate excellence in public broadcasting across more than 300 stations nationwide. 

Panhandle PBS Archives Local Broadcast History through Grant

Panhandle PBS has been selected by the American Archive of Public Broadcasting (AAPB) to participate in a national preservation initiative that will digitize nearly 1,000 pieces of historic media content—from one-inch and three-quarter-inch videotapes to reel-to-reel audio recordings—documenting the stories and people of the Texas Panhandle.

Amarillo College’s Panhandle PBS will welcome Lidia Bastianich—Emmy Award–winning public television host, best-selling cookbook author, and renowned restaurateur—to Amarillo for Savor the Goods: A Night of Friendship and Flavor with Lidia Bastianich on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at the Legacy Room at Arts in the Sunset, 3701 Plains Boulevard.

AC’s Panhandle PBS to Host Statewide Texas PBS Meeting Aug. 6–7

Amarillo College’s Panhandle PBS will welcome leaders from all 10 PBS stations in Texas for a two-day statewide meeting on Aug. 6–7.In addition to station managers, the leadership team of Texas PBS will also attend. Guests will travel from Austin, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, College Station, Lubbock, El Paso, and Midland to take part in the discussions.

Panhandle PBS Earns Statewide Audience for Local Documentaries

Two locally produced documentaries from Panhandle PBS have been selected to air across Texas after being chosen by a panel of PBS staff representing the 10 public television stations in the state.The selected films— “The Rain We Keep” and “Broken Bread: Examining Senior Food Insecurity in the Texas Panhandle”—were chosen from 15 submissions for broadcast.
