AC Hosts 23rd Annual Day of the Dead Art Show and Reception

Amarillo College will celebrate art, culture, and remembrance during its 23rd Annual Day of the Dead Art Show, opening with a public reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30 in the Common Lobby of the Amarillo College Washington Street Campus.

The exhibition honors the traditional Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos, a colorful and heartfelt celebration of life and memory. The show features original AC student, faculty, and community artwork inspired by themes of remembrance, heritage, and connection.

The evening reception will include live music by the AC Mariachi Band, directed by Camille Nies, head of the Music Department. Guests can enjoy the music, art, and conversation while exploring creative interpretations of one of Mexico’s most vibrant cultural traditions.

“This event brings together our campus and community in a spirit of celebration and reflection,” said Steve Cost, AC professor of art and show organizer. “Each year, the Day of the Dead Art Show grows in meaning and participation, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to share in this cultural experience.”

This year’s event also aligns with Amarillo College’s Hispanic Heritage Month activities, hosted by the AC Hispanic Student Association, connecting students and community members through shared artistic expression.

The public is encouraged to attend. Admission is free.
