Amarillo College to Host SkillsUSA Competition at Innovation Outpost
Amarillo College will host a SkillsUSA competition on Friday, Feb. 13 at the Amarillo College Innovation Outpost, bringing together high school students, industry professionals and educators for a hands-on, real-world learning experience.
The event will feature student competitors from area high schools and will be judged by Amarillo College faculty and staff, members of the College’s Business Leadership Councils, and professionals from the Amarillo community. AmTech Career Academy is also partnering in support of the event.
Competitions will start at 9 a.m. and run until 2 p.m. and include computer programming, cyber security, information technical services, interactive game, internet of things, internetworking, telecommunication cabling, advertising design, 3D animation and technical computer applications.
The competition is sponsored by EC-Council, a global leader in cybersecurity education and certification.
“This competition gives students a chance to apply their technical skills in a professional environment while connecting directly with educators and industry experts,” said A.J. Cunha, Cybersecurity Learning & Technology Specialist at Amarillo College. “We’re grateful to EC-Council for their sponsorship and ongoing partnership, which helps make opportunities like this possible for students interested in cybersecurity careers.”
SkillsUSA competitions are designed to prepare students for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations by emphasizing hands-on learning, teamwork and industry standards.
