Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Course Description

Study of electronic principles applied to microcomputers and communication systems. Includes digital fundamentals and use of electronic test equipment. May be taught manufacturer specific.

Student Performance

End-of-Course Outcomes: Employ proper safety procedures; use scan tools, digital storage oscilloscopes, and other electronic test equipment; and apply electronic principles to the diagnosis of microcomputers, analysis of communication circuits, and interpretation of sensor data.

If you are an active staff or faculty member according to Human Resources, use "Exchange". All other students, use "AC Connect (Google) Email".

Expected Student Behavior

Students must come to class wearing the appropriate AC uniform shirts.

Students MUST wear safety glasses in the shop/lab.

No cell phones are to be in use during class unless requested by Instructor.

Students will be respectful of other classes being conducted in the building, respectful of their peers, and of the instructor.

Students are expected to dress appropriately (shirts tucked in, no profanity on clothing, no holes in clothing) and clothing must appear to be laundered regularly.

Grading Criteria

The final grade will be computed as follows:

Total points for attendance and daily grades for homework and quizes. Must take the Final exam and correctly answer 70% or higher.

Class 15%-homework, quizes, Attendance- 35%, Lab- 35%, Final – 15%

A = 90 to 100 B = 80 to 89 C = 70 to 79 D = 60 to 69 F = Below 60

Attendance

There are (11) days of class in this course. Each class day there will be a sign in sheet. Your final grade will be calculated on an average of your attendance, your participation in lab work, and an average of homework and quiz scores.

 Being tardy will automatically count off 25 points on your attendance grade for the day, leaving early will result in a zero for the day.

 Active participation in lab activities is a major part of your grade, you must be dressed appropriately to work safely on vehicles. Your willingness to work with others and maintaining a positive attitude is part of your Lab grade.

There are six A TECH Electronic workstations that the students will rotate through working on in teams of 2 persons  each. You must document that you have completed at least 95% of the A-Tech workstations answer sheets. During the same time the following information will be covered in class as it corresponds with the A TECH training stations.

     Day 1 and 2;  Automotive Electrical Review 

  Review of circuit faults and operation of electrical components.

  Review safety components of electricity, review of the major circuit faults, wire repair and circuit components and operation.

  Operation of automotive electronic components; diodes, transistors, relays, thermistors, and capacitors.

     Day 3;     Diagnostic Resources and Procedures

  The Diagnostic Thought Process and critical thinking skills !

  Use of diagnostic tools related to automotive electronics; with Tech 2, Snap On Verdict, and Mac Mentor version 2012

  Service information and service bulletins. Review of navigation in "Mitchell On Demand" service information, to include some internet research.

      Day 3 and 4; Computers and sensor inputs.

  DC circuits and AC circuits and components

  Defining a sensor and sensor types.

  Outputs and multiplexed data communication.

  Computer functions; A/D conversion and D/A conversion, processing and parts of a computer.

       Day 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10;  A-Tech Training

   Lab Day for Electronic A-Tech Trainers

   Lab Day for Electronic A-Tech Trainers

   Lab Day for Electronic A-Tech Trainers

   Lab Day for Electronic A-Tech Trainers

        Day 11;  A-Tech Training and Hybrid Vehicles

 Introduction to Hybrid Vehicle Technology; safety procedures, high voltage battery and charging system, 12 volt system components, diagnostics

        Day 12; Review course and extra lab work with final exam

 Serial data, CAN and BUS, and diagnostics.
