Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Prerequisites

Course Description

The course provides the student with foundational information about the U.S. legal system and dispute resolution, and their impact on business. The major content areas will include general principles of law, the relationship of business and the U.S. Constitution, state and federal legal systems, the relationship between law and ethics, contracts, sales, torts, agency law, intellectual property and business law in the global context.

Students enrolled in an educational program in preparation for obtaining certain occupational licenses are potentially ineligible for such license if the student has been convicted of an offense. For further information, please contact your advisor, the Legal Clinic, or the faculty member in charge of the educational program that you seek to enroll in. The further information you will receive will include notification to you of your right to request a criminal history evaluation letter from the licensing authority in order to clarify your particular situation.

Syllabus Quiz (Due 8/28 at 11:45 PM):

10 Question Multiple Choice and True/False test with question from the Course Syllabus. You will be given one hour to complete the test.  

You will have one chance to complete the quiz

MindTap Chapter Quizzes:

•           There will be 2-3 MindTap 10 Question Multiple Choice and True/False Quizzes due each week.

•           Chapter Quizzes are one hour and open book

•           It is your responsibility to complete each assignment by the due date.

•           MindTap assignments are due every Monday night by 11:59 P.M., according to the Calendar below unless otherwise specified.

•           There will be NO Deadline Extensions given.

•           If your computer crashes or you have technical difficulties, email me immediately, and I will decide on a case-by-case basis the appropriate solution. I highly recommend using Firefox as your browser. If you consistently have technical problems, I will insist you complete these assignments in one of AC’s computer labs.

Midterm Exam (Due 10/30 at 11:59 PM):

•           There will be a Midterm Exam.

•           The Midterm is open Book and Open Notes.

•           There will be Multiple Choice or True/False Questions from Chapter 1 through Chapter 18.

•           You will have one attempt at the Midterm Exam.

•           You will have 3 hours to complete the Midterm Exam once you open it.

•           You must complete the Midterm Exam once you open it. You cannot start the Midterm Exam, exit out and come back. Once you exit the Midterm Exam, your grade will be submitted as is.

Corporate Social Responsibility Movie and Paper (Due 12/12 by 11:59 PM):  

•          You will be required to find and watch a movie that addresses how a business was socially responsible or socially irresponsible. You will then write a 5-7 page double spaced page paper over your selected movie. Further detailed instruction will be provided during either the 3^rd or 4^th week of class.  A Rubric wll be posted on Blackboard that will list my expectations and how I will grade this assignment.

•   FINAL EXAM (DUE 12/14 by 11:59 PM:

•           There will be a Final Exam that will open the morning of 12/12

•           Final Exam is open Book and Open Notes.

•           There will be Multiple Choice or True/False Questions from Chapter 19 through Chapter 32.

•           You will have one attempt at the Final Exam.

•           You will have 3 hours to complete the Final Exam once you open it.

•           You must complete the Final Exam once you open it. You cannot start the Final Exam, exit out and come back. Once you exit the Final Exam, your grade will be submitted as is.

OPTIONAL EXTRA CREDIT - TORT WARS VIDEO AND ASSIGNMENT:  

Tort Wars You Tube Video Assignment and Quiz (1)

1. Watch the 9 part Mark Lanier Tort Wars You Tube Video and answer 10 multiple choice questions (Max 2% on your total grade) – I recommend that you take notes while watching to video to use during the quiz. There is a 1 hour time limit on the quiz, but you can take the quiz twice if needed so do not wait until the last moment. Due Dec 11, 2017 by 11:59 PM
