Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

Students enrolled in an educational program in preparation for obtaining certain occupational licenses are potentially ineligible for such license if the student has been convicted of an offense. The further information you will receive will include notification to you of your right to request a criminal history evaluation letter from the licensing authority in order to clarify your particular situation.

Course Description: Application of management procedures for early care and education programs. Includes planning, operating, supervising, and evaluating programs. Topics cover philosophy, types of programs, policies, fiscal management, regulations, staffing, evaluation, and communication.
End-of-Course Outcomes: Analyze the planning functions; evaluate the operational functions; and interpret the supervisory functions of an administrator. Summarize the evaluation of functions in an early care and education program; analyze methods of effective communication; and utilize skills in speaking, writing, computation, and computer applications.

The assignments are:
Parent Handbook (Compare and Contrast Paper) 10% A paper written to compare and contrast two parent handbooks from an early childhood program. The paper should be at least two pages long. After reading about parent involvement and the role of the director, write a paper comparing two different parent handbooks. Summarize the elements of a high quality parent handbook. Be prepared to discuss what is a strong example or a weak example during class discussion.
Mission Statement 10% A statement developed in class but unique to the individual, articulating important elements of high quality practices in programs serving young children and their families. Be prepared to connect the mission statement to other policy or staff development activities in class discussion.
Leadership Project 50% This is a class project chosen, designed, implemented and presented as a group. The process will be guided by the instructor and supported with class time and outside time related to the practicum. We will determine the project based on the interests of the group and the current events regarding quality shaping the workplace of early childhood centers. Students will be asked to use leadership skills and strategic planning to complete the full project.
Book Report 20% Two titles will be chosen and the class will have opportunities to team-up to read and share one of the books on leadership. A written report will be submitted by the individual and graded. The group will lead a discussion on the book read and prepare a class activity.
Quality Rating Tool 10% Research one tool and present example to class.
The student will meet at scheduled times for lecture and other meetings as needed for any make up lectures. Please be at every face to face class. Hybrid classes will cover a great deal of information in the classroom settings.
Be sure to register for both CDEC 2326 and CDEC 2265 in the same semester. These two classes go together.
