Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. Students enrolled in an educational program in preparation for obtaining certain occupational licenses are potentially ineligible for such license if the student has been convicted of an offense. You are expected to have knowledge and skills in design, color and drawing in order to paint. Preparation must be made first in the sketchbook with thumbnail sketches approximately 2 inches x 3 inches as wll as more developed full page color roughs. You may proceed to painting only after the instructor’s approval of a developed color rough.
We will be busy, so don’t miss classes and don’t be tardy and don’t leave early. During the semester there will be several hours of learning to paint, techniques, mix colors, make canvas stretchers, stretch and prepare canvas, framing, and techniqes of hanging an exhibition, and how to market your art. You must work more hours than the time during class. You will need to stay or come back to the classroom painting studio and paint, which I will arrange to have open for you before and after class yours Monday through Friday. You may paint at home, but that does not excuse you from attending class. There are specific assignments and you must follow directions, do the research, preliminary work, and properly prepare the paintings for exhibit. You must present your work to a visiting artist “judge” in a “Painting Showcase” — a digital PowerPoint show put together by the instructor. You will also prepare and provide an artist statement for the judge and instructor during the showcase.

No more than 2 class periods may be missed without approval from the instructor. After two “free” absences, the final class grade will be reduced by 3 grade points for each unexcused absence, and you will be advised by the instructor concerning continuing or withdrawing from the course.
