Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Course Description

Topics address recently identified current events, skills, knowledge and/or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the technology or occupation and relevant to the professional development of the student. This course was designed to be repeated multiple times to improve student proficiency.

Students enrolled in an educational program in preparation for obtaining certain occupational licenses are potentially ineligible for such license if the student has been convicted of an offense. For further information, please contact your advisor, the Legal Clinic, or the faculty member in charge of the educational program that you seek to enroll in. The further information you will receive will include notification to you of your right to request a criminal history evaluation letter from the licensing authority in order to clarify your particular situation.

Student Performance

1. Understand and apply proper shop safety practices.

2. Read a steel rule / tape measure accurately.

3. Understand and apply mathematical formulas for layout and fabrication.

4. Know and apply geometric construction principles.

5. Know and be able to lay out orthographic projections.

6. Use orthographic projections to develop templates for sheet metal components.

7. Understand the safe use of sheet metal working equipment.

8 Draw patterns using parallel line construction, radial line construction, and triangulation.

9. Fabricate sheet metal parts using hand tools and machinery.

If you are an active staff or faculty member according to Human Resources, use "Exchange". All other students, use "AC Connect (Google) Email".

Expected Student Behavior

Department Expectations:

All students in Technical Education are expected to abide by the Professional Code of Conduct.  A copy is available on the main content page of the Blackboard course.  Students will not be able to attend courses if not in compliance by the third class day.

 

Communication

The instructor will use AC email as the primary means of communicating with students.  Students are responsible for e-mail messages sent to their AC email account; thus, students are responsible to check their AC email accounts.  The instructor will only respond to emails sent from the student’s official AC email account and that identify the applicable class in the subject line or first sentence of the email.  Further, emails should be professional using proper spelling, grammar, style and format, if the student expects a response.

 

Academic Integrity

Academic integrity is vital.  Any acts of academic dishonesty will be penalized severely.  The instructor has a zero tolerance policy in regard to academic dishonesty.

 

Grading Criteria

Each student’s grade will be based upon his/her performance on each of the course sections.  The course has two sections as follows:

Instructor's Statement

As your instructor, I am always willing to discuss your grades with you and explain how your grade was determined.  If a grading error has been made on my part, I am always willing to correct the error.

 

Attendance

Attendance in a class is regarded as requirement, and obligation for learning. Please remember the deadline for dropping a class during the first eight week session at AC is published in the official Amarillo College Schedule of Classes.  If you stop attending class and do not officially drop the course by this deadline, you will receive an “F” for the course.

The attendance in the course will be monitored through the sign in sheets.  

It is the responsibility of the student to make up any work missed due to illness or travel and to access information regarding missed work through AC Connect or classmates.  Make up examinations (and other assignments) will be permitted only at the discretion of the instructor. The time and place for make-up test will be determined by the instructor if approved.

SAFETY IS OUR ONE MOST IMPORTANT CONCERN. NO ONE IS ALLOWED IN ANY SHOP WITHOUT SAFETY GLASSES, AS WELL AS ANY OTHER APPROPRIATE SAFETY GEAR. ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO FOLLOW THE AMARILLO COLLEGE TECHNICAL EDUCATION CODE OF PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT. COMPLIANCE WITH THE CODE IS MANDATORY FOR CLASS PARTICIPATION.
