We have computers for your use in the on campus COMPUTER LABS as well as the 4th floor of the library. Be sure you ask for help if you are having a difficult time.

To access AC CONNECT, you need your AC online user name and password. TO DOWNLOAD AND PRINT OFF YOUR LECTURE POWERPOINT NOTES:
In order to print out your powerpoint lecture notes you will need a computer that has POWER POINT on it (as the library computers do). OPEN THE FILE YOU WANT TO PRINT OFF. Open up the file by clicking on THE LINK, AND YOU CAN EITHER OPEN IT BY CLICKING ON THE FILE NAME OR BY WAITING FOR IT TO OPEN AUTOMATICALLY. Once it has opened up in power point, click on PRINT from the menu list at the top of the screen. This will open your printer driver window. Since all printer driver windows are different a bit depending upon the printer you are using, look for the place where it says "PRINT WHAT"...select Handouts from the menu. Then you'll see the Handouts area light up and select 3 for number of slides per page. Also, if you have a color printer but don't want to print in color, you can select Gray Scale , rather than color and save on that color ink.

STUDENT BEHAVIOR: What is expected of you!
IF THIS IS AN ON CAMPUS COURSE: Students are expected to attend class, to participate in class and to prepare for class lectures and discussions by reading the text and doing homework assignments. Students are expected to turn off all electronic devices (if you have a sick child, you may bring your phone and put it on vibrate). If you miss class, you are expected to contact the instructor and/or other students in the class to get information about the class.
FOR ALL COURSES: Since this instructor emails reminders via the AC ONLINE classroom announcement page, it's best to check into your AC ONLINE class frequently. As well, all course notes and assignments are in the AC ONLINE classroom folders, as directed by your instructor. It is your responsibility to get the information and printed materials, as well as take EXAMS in the AC Online classroom. If you don't have a computer, simply check the ones in the library. However, it's important to remember that this course is not designed to CONFIRM YOUR OWN POLITICAL or RELIGIOUS BELIEFS, but rather to get you to think about sociology, society, and people in a bigger way than you may have already been exposed to. IN THAT, YOU MAY FIND YOURSELF UNCOMFORTABLE AT TIMES, AS YOU ARE BEING REQUIRED TO STRETCH OUTSIDE OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE! This is a part of what it means to get an education! Obviously, learning to see the world in a different light is the goal of this course! You are encouraged to debate others, and your instructor, in a polite BUT WELL INFORMED manner! If you want to debate a point made, all this instructor asks, is that you bring your sources and do a good job of backing up your ideas. In academics, we like well informed opinions! This is KEY to analytical and creative thinking and is the hallmark of what it means to have academic freedom! If you are not comfortable expressing your opinions in front of the class, you may obtain 10 extra credit points by WRITING a rebuttal paper. If your instructor feels that you have backed up your point of view with sources that are informed and expert on the topic, your instructor will READ your paper to the class (with your permission of course!). Let's enjoy the spirit of debate (and we will actually have a REAL DEBATE over the DEATH PENALTY in class...your instructor ONLY plays the time keeper and steering the discussion so that everyone is heard). YOUR FINAL GRADE IS BASED ON THE FOLLOWING POINTS:

- STUDENT INFORMATION SHEET RETURNED by due dat to instructor in class = 5 pts
- RANDOM STUDENT ATTENDANCE POINTS up to 15 points = 15 points
- SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT TOPIC (the agency you will be working at) = 10 points
- UNITS 1, 2, & 3 EXAMS worth 100 points each
NOTE: you get to drop lowest exam of the 3 or if you miss an exam it is your drop! UNIT 4 EXAM is required for everyone. ALSO,, you get two attempts on each exam. Total on first 3 exams will be = 200 pts
- UNIT 4 FINAL EXAM over Unit 4 & a few comprehensive questions (required!) = 100 pts

If you didn’t take the practice quizzes OR if you didn’t do well on the quizzes, you can make up the difference in UP TO 30 POINTS by donating $1.00 worth of food to the AC FOOD PANTRY. In other words, you can donate all food and not take your practice quizzes or you can take the practice quizzes and donate some food up to 30 extra credit points.

STUDENT ATTENDANCE:
"90% of Success is SHOWING UP": While it may be tempting to skip classes, know that the #1 factor linked with good grades IS class attendance.
If this is an online course, you will do best if you are working IN THE ONLINE CLASSROOM at least 2 to 5 times a week! People who end up doing poorly rarely show up in the classroom. Check the announcements and emails daily and be working on your projects! Set up a study schedule for yourself that is reasonable and works! This way you’ll cross the finish line.
If this is an ON CAMPUS or HYBRID COURSE I will be taking attendance at the beginning of the class over he semester. Depending upon the length of the class (8 weeks or 16 weeks) and whether we meet full time or, for a hybrid, half time, I will be taking attendance at the beginning of class several times during the semester. - SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT: FIND YOUR AGENCY RIGHT AWAY and GET STARTED EARLY!
- TUESDAY, JULY 10th, 11:55 pm: GO TO THE SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT FOLDER from the MENU LIST ON YOUR HOMEPAGE. Find the VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOLDER and GO TO THE AMARILLO VOLUNTEER MATCH SITE to find the many opportunities in our community. Call your agency and make sure they can accommodate you! THEN: by TUESDAY, JULY 10th, write a line in the SERVICE PROJECT "TOPIC" drop box online about what you will be doing and what agency you will volunteer for. REMEMBER: This is due ONLINE by TUESDAY, JULY 10th 11:55 pm. THIS IS WORTH 10 points.

Then, you will write about your experience in 5 ESSAY QUESTIONS that you will turn in on TUESDAY, AUGUST 7th by 11:55 pm. YOUR SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT volunteer hours and the ESSAY over your experience are worth 100 points!!!! SO there is no time to waste! This is ONLY a 6 week course! Get started now! REMINDER: You must complete your ESSAY in the PROJECT TEMPLATE that I PROVIDE FOR YOU! I will not grade projects that are not in the TEMPLATE FORMAT! - Class 7 W, July 11th:Chapter 3: LAB 1: DREAM LAB and Consciousness, Meditation, hypnosis Sleep. PRINT OFF DREAM LAB and bring to class for 10 points!

- Unit 3 EXAM opens after class on Wednesday, July 25th and is DUE by SUNDAY, JULY 30th along with Unit 3 PRACTICE QUIZ and CH 7 LEARNING QUIZ (up to 5 extra credit points each). Remember, practice quizzes can only help you, they can't hurt you!
- UNIT 3 OPENS CLASS 16 THURSDAY, JULY 26th. Read chapters 10, 11 and 12, Watch film with Robert Sapolsky on STRESS, and take PERSONALITY TEST and do UNIT 3 PERSONALITY & CAREER written lab. See all Instructions on the LAB SHEET that you will be using for your LAB. Print off your UNIT 3 Study Guide and fill in as you read your chapters and as we discuss material in class. - Class 16 TH, JULY 26th: START UNIT 3: Read chapters 10 on Motivation & Emotion, and download your UNIT 3 Chapter 12 PERSONALITY LAB online, save to your computer to complete by FRIDAY AUGUST 3rd 11:55 pm. You will submit this COMPLETE LAB IN THE PROVIDED TEMPLATE ONLINE!
- DUE SUNDAY, JULY 29th 11:55 PM: Your Unit 2 PRACTICE QUIZ & the CH 7 LEARNING QUIZ for up to 5 extra credit points each. These quizzes can only help you they can't hurt you and you have as many attempts as you need.
- UNIT 2 EXAM opens WEDNESDAY, JULY 26th and will close on SUNDAY, JULY 29th by 11:55 pm. Take it online (worth 100 pts). Remember, you get to drop the lowest exam from Units 1, 2, 3.

- Class 18, Tu, July 31st: Chapter 11 and WATCH ROBERT SAPOLSKY film ONLINE on your own! Be sure you finish the LAB over CAREER AND PERSONALITY by FRIDAY, August 3rd.
- Class 19,W, August 1st: Discuss chapter 12 handout on personality theorists. Don't forget your UNIT 3 PERSONALITY CAREER LAB due FRIDAY ONLINE!
- UNIT 3 EXAM opens after class 19 on WEDNESDAY August 1st, and it along with the UNIT 3 PRACTICE QUIZ are due by SUNDAY, AUGUST 5th 11:55 pm.
- UNIT 4 OPENS THURSDAY, AUGUST 3rd CLASS 18. Read chapters 13, 14 and 15, and all the HANDOUTS that are required~! Watch the HUMAN BEHAVIOR EXPERIMENTS for CH 13 and other short videos for chapters that say required, fill out study guide for Exam 4. YOUR FINAL GRADE IS BASED ON THE FOLLOWING POINTS:

- EXTRA CREDIT: PRACTICE QUIZZES (6 quizzes include Unit 1, Science, Unit 2, Learning Unit 3 and 4 up to 5 extra credit points each). = 30 points. If you didn’t take the practice quizzes OR you didn’t do well on them, you can make up the difference in UP TO 30 POINTS by donating $1.00 worth of food to the AC FOOD PANTRY. In other words, you can donate all food and not take your practice quizzes or you can take the practice quizzes and donate some food up to 30 extra credit points.

TO REVIEW YOUR EXAMS: Click on MY GRADES in the menu tab, scroll down and select the quiz or exam and click to review! You can see what you missed AFTER THE FINAL DUE DATE and TIME ONLY! Sorry, but I can’t open exams between because there was too much cheating going on!
In order to see your instructor's comments on your work (such as your discussions and your paper), GO TO "MY GRADES" tab in the menu to the left of your BLACKBOARD CLASSROOM SCREEN. Find the item you want to look at in the LIST (they are not necessarily in order...sorry!). Click on that and you will see a place that says RUBRIC and COMMENTS. Click on comments to see anything your instructor has said, and click on RUBRIC to view the rubric grading system and how your instructor graded you. PLEASE...this instructor SPENDS A LOT OF TIME to give you CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK...USE IT and make corrections accordingly! If you keep making the same error time and again, YOUR GRADES WILL CONTINUE TO GO DOWN! I expect you to USE THE FEEDBACK I GIVE YOU TO BECOME A BETTER STUDENT and to IMPROVE IN YOUR SCHOOL WORK!
