Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) End-of-Course Outcomes: Utilize appropriate safety procedures; describe historical development and career information of the automotive industry; demonstrate safe, professional, and responsible work practices; demonstrate the proper use of shop equipment and tools; describe the eight Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) vehicle subsystems; use service information; and perform basic automotive maintenance.
1. Identify general shop safety rules and procedures.
2. Utilize safe procedures for handling of tools and equipment.
3. Identify and use proper placement of floor jacks and jack stands.
4. Identify and use proper procedures for safe lift operation.
5. Utilize proper ventilation procedures for working within the lab/shop area.
There are several ventilation systems in the Automotive bay, learn how to use them properly
6. Identify marked safety areas.
7. Identify the location and the types of fire extinguishers and other fire safety equipment; demonstrate knowledge of the procedures for using fire extinguishers and other fire safety equipment.
8. Identify the location and use of eye wash stations.
9. Identify the location of the posted evacuation routes.
10.Comply with the required use of safety glasses, ear protection, gloves, and shoes during lab/shop activities.
11.Identify and wear appropriate clothing for lab/shop activities
12. Secure hair and jewelry for lab/shop activities.
13. Demonstrate awareness of the safety aspects of air bag (SRS) systems, electronic brake systems, and hybrid vehicle high voltage circuits.

Cell phones are to be on silent or vibrate during class unless requested by the Instructor. In order to maintain a safe environment in the shop, cell phones are not to be out in the shop. Being aware of your surroundings is vital to staying safe.
Students will be respectful of other classes being conducted in the building, respectful of their peers, and of the instructor.
Horseplay or unsafe behaviors will not be tolerated. You will be asked to leave and you will be given a zero for the day.

Late work will be accepted with a deduction of 10 points for each day after assignment was due. Work turned in after 3 days past the due date will not be accepted.
You are expected to attend class on time and stay for the entire class.
Being more than 10 minutes late will be considered a tardy. 25 points will be deducted from your daily attendance grade for each occurrence.

Vehicles are not to remain "overnight". Any work performed MUST be completed by the end of class. Verify you have ALL parts and supplies needed to complete any maintenance or repair. If unsure, ask your instructor prior to work being started.
All vehicles brought into the shop MUST have a repair order filled out and placed on the windshield.
Honk your horn prior to entering and leaving the shop.
Have a window down and keys outside of the vehicle to prevent being locked out.
