Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) An introduction to the modern science of dimensional metrology. Emphasis on the identification, selection, and application of various types of precision instruments associated with the machining trade. Practice of basic layout and piece part measurements while using standard measuring tools.

End-of-Course Outcomes: Describe common methods of measurement conversion; determine the degree of precision measurement required; identify various types of precision instruments and their applications; list maintenance procedures on various types of measuring instruments; interpret and confirm blueprint requirements; convert between English and metric units; compute total tolerances of parts; calibrate various types of precision measuring instruments to a standard; and select and use precision measurement tools.

You are expected to attend all class meetings on time and stay for the whole class. Points will be deducted from your attendance and participation for not complying.
Three tardies ( more than ten minutes after the start of class or leaving before class is concluded) equal an absence.
Ten points will be deducted from your final grade for each absence.
Day 1. Discussion of whole numbers, decimals, fractions and metric measurements as they apply to special measuring tools.
Day 2. Tape measure, steel rule, hack saw, skill saw, and tri-square.
Day 3 Micrometers (inside and outside), depth micrometers (English and metric), calipers (digital and non-digital), dial indicators (English and metric)
Day 4. Measuring main bearing journals and rod bearing journals on a crankshaft, measuring for wear on camshaft.
Day 5. Using a dial indicator measure lobe lift on a camshaft. Measure clutch pack clearance on a direct clutch and an intermediate clutch using a dial indicator, depth micrometer, and a feeler gage.
Day 6. Using a dial indicator measure backlash on a differential and run out on a flywheel and a brake rotor.
Day 7. Mark and drill holes to specifications on a 2 X 4 and a piece of angle iron. Thread holes to specification in the drilled holes of the angle iron (or flat iron).
Day 8. Demonstrate the ability to add and subtract fractions, whole numbers and metric numbers.
Day 9. Review and take final exam with performance exam.
