Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

Anatomy and Physiology II is the second part of a two-course sequence. It is a study of the structure and function of the human body including the following systems: endocrine, cardiovascular, immune, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive (including nutrition), urinary (including fluid and electrolyte balance) and reproductive (including human development and genetics). Emphasis is on interrelationships among systems and regulation of physiological functions involved in maintaining homeostasis. The lab provides a hands-on learning experience for exploration of human system components and basic physiology.

Grievance Procedure: If a student is having a problem with the course policies, or with the instructor, he or she should first try to resolve any such problems with the instructor. If the problem is not resolved, the student may proceed to the Biology Department Chairman (Dr. Claudie Biggers), the Dean of STEM (Dr. Buse), the Vice President of Instruction(Dr. Clunis), or the college President (Dr. Lowery-Hart), IN THAT ORDER.
Cell phones: Cell phones are not prohibited, however, please be considerate of others. Please keep all cell phones on silent or vibrate mode. If it is essential that you answer the call, please step outside the classroom to complete the call. Absolutely no call shall be taken during a quiz, exam, or practical. This will result in a grade of zero on that quiz, exam, or practical.
Plagiarism / Academic Dishonesty: Academic dishonesty or plagiarism will not be tolerated in this class. Students caught cheating on a quiz, exam, or lab practical will be given a grade of zero on that assignment and referred to the Dean of Student Services (Mr. Robert Austin).
Special Notes:
This syllabus is subject to change at the discretion of the instructor. Material included is intended to provide an outline of the course and rules that the instructor will adhere to in evaluating student's progress. Student's are expected to read the textbook before and after the material is presented in the lectures.
A = 900 - 1,000 points, B = 800 - 899 points, C = 700 -799 points, D = 600 - 699 points, F = < 600 points
Lecture 50%, (500 points) and will include the following:
1. Six lecture exams, each worth 80 points. One lecture exam will be dropped. Total value of lecture exams will be 400 points.
2. 5-7 lecture quizzes, each worth 20 points. One lecture quiz will be dropped. Total value of lecture quizzes will be 100 points.
Laboratory 25%, (250points) and will include the following:
1. Three lab practicals, each worth 50 points for a total value of 150 points.
2. 5-7 lab quizzes, each worth 10 points. One lab quiz will be dropped. Total value of lab quizzes will be 50 points.
3. 5 case studies, each worth 10 points. Total value of case studies will be 50 points.
Final exam 25% (250 points). Final exam will be a minimum of 150 questions to a maximum of 200 questions and will be comprehensive.
No make-ups will be allowed. Extenuating circumstances will be reviewed on an individual basis. One lecture exam, one lecture quiz, and one lab quiz will be dropped.
Regular attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend class. Attendance will be taken until the census day (10/29/18), after that date attendance will not be taken.
A grade of W will be given for a student-initiated drop or withdrawal on or before December 5, 2018. You may not drop or withdraw after December 5, 2018, without permission of the Biology Department. You must petition the department, in writing, for evaluation of a late withdrawal. This will be reviewed by the full-time faculty of the Biology Department.
Minimum four lecture exams, two lab practicals, and a comprehensive final exam.

Science Testing Center

All tests, excluding the Final Exam, will be taken in the Science Testing Center and may be taken during the normal Science Testing Center hours, day or evening. Tests will be taken outside of class lecture time, and you will have a 72 hour window to take the tests. Please note: No tests will be given out less than one and a half hours be the Science Testing Center closes. You must present an Amarillo College student ID every time you take a test. The Science Testing Center staff will retain your ID while you take your test and it will be returned to you when you turn in your test.

Mandatory Tutoring:

In an effort to increase retention in Biology courses, any student who scores below 70 on any exam (excluding the Final Exam) must complete a mandatory 60 minute tutoring session with his / her instructor or in the Science Enrichment Center before taking the next exam.
Appointments for the 60 minute tutoring are required and may be scheduled in the Science Enrichment Center or by calling 806-371-5536.
A record of tutoring form will be given to you when you complete 60 minutes of required tutoring. You will not be allowed to take the next exam without the completed record of tutoring form.

Peer tutors are available in the Science Enrichment Center.
Cheating:
Cheating will not be tolerated in any Biology course at Amarillo College. On the first day of class, you will be required to sign and date a Course Contract. Included in the contract is the following statement: “I fully understand that if I cheat, or attempt to cheat, on any test I will receive an automatic “F” in the course. This grade will go on my permanent transcript and cannot be removed. Cheating includes, but is not limited to” the illegal use of books, notes, cell phones*, copying or leaving the Science Testing Center with a test or questions from a test. Cheating also includes helping, or attempting to help, other students to cheat on a test.”
You will not be allowed to take your tests in the Science Testing Center until this contract is signed and on file in the Science Testing Center.
