Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) A study of appropriate infant and toddler (birth to 3 years) programs, including an overview of development, quality caregiving routines, appropriate environments, materials and activities, and teaching/guidance techniques.

2.     There is a tab in Blackboard that is available --   It is called “Student Tools” and is in the upper right-hand corner of the Blackboard page.

Student Performance

1)  Summarize prenatal development and the birth process.

2)  Discuss the theories of development as they apply to infants and toddlers.

3)  Outline growth and development of children from birth to age 3.

4)  Analyze components of teacher/child interactions and elements of appropriate indoor and outdoor environments.

5)  Provide developmentally appropriate materials and activities and use developmentally appropriate teaching/guidance techniques.

Grading Criteria
Weekly Quizzes and Exams =  25% of Final Grade
Participation in Weekly Online Discussions and Assignments = 25% of Final Grade
Projects = 50% of Final Grade

Grading Scale
A = 100 -- 90
B =   89 -- 80
C =   79 -- 70
D =   69 -- 65
F =    64 -- 0 

In order to pass the class, all 4 projects have to be completed --  combined they account for 50% of your final grade.  Not doing one will adversely effect your final grade!

Attendance

 All assignments, projects, and exams will be done online.

It is the student’s responsibility to log in at least 3-4 times each week, check dates on the syllabus and complete assignments, quizzes, and exams on scheduled dates.  

Your participation helps you learn more, makes the class more meaningful and be more successful.

There is peer tutoring available to you at no cost. The Writer’s Corner staff will help you prepare written assignments.  Let the instructor know if you need assistance.

If for some reason you are unable to complete this course, be sure to notify the instructor.  You must have a signature on the Withdrawal Request from the instructor before you can submit it to your advisor who must also sign before submitting it to the Registrar's Office.  It can be a lengthy process so do not wait until the last day to drop.

Please use correct grammar when completing assignments. Capitalize the beginning of each sentence, names and punctuate.  

 Modules are due on Sunday nights at 11:59.  I understand that life happens and there are emergencies that come up, however, you have an entire week to complete the homework, so please don’t wait until the last minute  to start your homework for the week. Late assignments are not accepted.  

Discussion forums will not be available to post to after the date/time deadline.  Please read carefully and be aware of when things are due.
