Grading Criteria

Course Evaluations:

Students should complete all performance tasks on time at REQUIRED MASTERY LEVEL. Tasks, projects, and various assignments will be scored based on time; accuracy; neatness; completeness; procedure; skill; detail; motivation and attitude; safety practices; clean up; care of manuals, logbooks, and references; and other grading criteria. No task shall be rated until assignment is complete and inspected for meeting specifications.
Project Machining Criteria: As a Machinist the most valuable work we can do is process planning, it takes time and work but; the more we do it, the easier it will become. Knowing what we need, tools and tooling, machine requirements, material requirements, speeds and feeds relevant math computations and other items prior to starting a job leads to success. Failure to do so generally leads to an unacceptable outcome. I can tell you from my own personal experience that when I did not do my pre-planning it usually ended in a bad part or took more time than was acceptable. All of the above will lead to experience which is priceless.
1) Process Procedure: This document will contain the following. Machine requirements, Material requirements, Tooling requirements, Measuring tool requirements, Speeds and Feeds, Relevant math computation and detailed order of operations. This is the same as a CNC Program. The instructor will initial and date the document prior to machining the part. Failure to do this will result in the part being rejected.
2) Student inspection sheet: Each project will be accompanied with a inspection sheet, that you will complete prior to submitting part for final inspection. First though we must measure the part while it is being made (NEVER MEASURE A PART WHILE THE MACHINE IS RUNNING AND NEVER TAKE THE PART OUT OF VISE OR CHUCK TO MEASURE IT!!!) . This will alow you to catch a mistake early and sve you time. Secondly it will build your precision measuring and set-up skills when we are working for an employer we must be able to perform these operations quickly and accurately. Failure to fill out this sheet will result in the part being rejected.
Final (Overall) Grade Policy:
The final overall grade will be computed by adding the points earned as follows:
Daily Attendance: 25% of Final Grade. Graded by Rubric
Tooling-U: 25% of Final Grade.
Project/ Projects: 25% of Final Grade: Projects graded by Rubric
Final Exam: NIMS or in Class Final 25% of Final Grade
100.00% – 90.00% = A
89.99% - 80.00%   =  B
79.99% - 70.00%    = C
69.99% - 60.00%    = D
59.99% - 0.00%      = F
