Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Topics address recently identified current events, skills, knowledge, and/or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the technology or occupation and relevant to the professional development of the student. This course was designed to be repeated mulitiple times to improve student proficiency.

End-of-Course Outcomes: Learning outcomes/objectives are determined by local occupational need and business and industry trends.

TASK LIST

  • Create an online account with ASE at "myase.com".

  • Explain the process of how to become ASE certified, how much it costs and where to take the exams.
  •  
  • Learn what categories of ASE tests are available for Automotive and Diesel Technicians to take.
  •  
  • Become familiar with key vocabulary used by ASE testing. Research the ASE website.
  •  
  • Download to personal electronic device any and all free ASE test study/prep guides.
  •  
  • Sign up for and take the student versions of the ASE tests, if available and affordable.
  •  
  • Learn and use good study skills to prepare for any and all test taking (discover test anxiety and how to manage it).

Expected Student Behavior

Students are required to comply with the Amarillo College Technical Education Code of Professional Conduct. The Amarillo College Technical Education Code of Professional Conduct will be posted on the bulletin board in the Transportation Career Center and the Academic Classroom Center and will be explained in detail by the Instructor on the first day of class.

35% Lab Performance/ task sheet / papers

90 - 100 = A

80- 89.9= B

70 - 79.9 = C

60 - 69.9 = D

0 - 59.9 = F

 

Late work will  not be accepted  after due date.

If you have a 90% average and miss zero classes you will be exempt from the final exam 

Attendance

You are expected to attend all class meetings on time and stay for the whole class. Points will be deducted from your attendance and participation for not complying.

Three tardies ( more than ten minutes after the start of class or leaving before class is concluded) equal an absence.

Ten points will be deducted from your final grade for each absence.

week 1: Review Syllabus with particular emphasis on Amarillo College Technical Education Code of Professional Conduct.

week 2: Review Chapter 1-Automotive Careers and ASE exams.

week 3: Create an account with "MYASE.com" - 

week 4: Write an explanation of how to become ASE certified. - 

week 5: Research the many types of jobs and careers there are in the Industry with respect to your chosen major.

week 6: Research "Right to Know" laws and "OSHA" regulations.

week 7: Personal Protection Equipment and shop safety.

week 8: Create resume' showing all work experience and successfully completed certifications.
