Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) MATH-1316-DC016 Trigonometry

Prerequisites

Prerequisite: MATH 1414-minimum grade of C or Department Chair consent

Course Description

In-depth study and applications of trigonometry including definitions, identities, inverse functions, solutions of equations, graphing and solving triangles. Additional topics such as vectors, polar coordinates and parametric equations may be included.

CALCULATOR: You will need a calculator for this course. A graphing calculator will be provided when needed.  You will not be able to use a calculator on most test.  If you will need one you will be provided a graphing calculator.

Student Performance

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, students will:

1.  Compute the values of the trigonometric functions for key angles in all quadrants of the unit circle measured in both degrees and radians.

2.  Graph trigonometric functions and their transformations.

3.  Prove trigonometric identities.

4.  Solve trigonometric equations.

5.  Solve right and oblique triangles.

6.  Use the concepts of trigonometry to solve applications.

Expected Student Behavior

SCHOLASTIC DISHONESTY:  Cheating is defined in the Webster's College Dictionary as "taking an examination in a dishonest way, as by having improper access to answers." Improper access includes, but is not limited to, copying from another student's work and using unauthorized sources of information while taking a test. Any student caught cheating on a test will receive a grade of zero with no chance of making up that grade. For a further definition and discussion of scholastic dishonesty, please refer to the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.

Phones/Pagers:  It is the policy AISD that cell phones  and pagers are off limits during school.     

Grading Criteria

GRADING CRITERIA/GRADE SCALE:  Your course grade of A (90-100), B (80-89), C (70-79)and F (below 70) will be computed as the average of the earned grades from each six weeks:.  Homework, daily work, quizzes 20%; major unit exams 60%; final exam 20%     

Attendance

ATTENDANCE POLICY:  Please remember the deadline for dropping a class at AC during this semester is April 21, 2022 . If you stop completing assignments, and your average falls below 60 due to missed assignments, and you do not officially drop the course by this deadline, you will receive an “F” for the course.

  1.  Your instructor is your first, BEST resource for help.  Feel free to come to office hours or make an appointment.
  2. Free one-on-one tutoring at the Student Math Outreach Center in Durrett 104 is available.  You will need your AC ID to sign in.  Hours:  MTWRF 8am – 8pm, Sat 9am-8pm, Sun closed.
