Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.

Introduction to computer-aided drafting using CAD software and sketching to generate two- and three-dimensional drawings based on the conventions of engineering graphical communication; topics include spatial relationships, multi-view projections and sectioning, dimensioning, graphical presentation of data and fundamentals of computer graphics.

Welcome to ENGR 1304 - Engineering Graphics. Engineering Graphics is the creation of engineering drawings using a Computer Aided Design (CAD) tool. Solidworks is the software tool we will use in class; prior to using the software, we will freehand sketch, which is fundamental to engineering design. The engineering drawing is a key deliverable for engineers as it captures details of a part or an assembly as it matures through development, testing, production, and retirement. A good understanding of this subject is of great importance for design, and you can expect to create freehand sketches and use a CAD tool if your future engineering assignments involves design.
We will create free hand sketches; learn dimensioning principles and use the CAD tool to create part, assembly, and drawing templates as well as part, assembly, and drawing files. We will take our part files and convert them for 3D printing, which will provide evidence that are parts were accurately modeled prior to creating the assembly models. We will learn the fundamentals of analysis, which will support center of mass and related mass properties for our part.

Students are expected to behave in the classroom in a manner that is supportive of the learning environment. In order to receive credit for a course, all material listed on the syllabus must be covered. The instructor sets the pace to ensure that these requirements are met. Complaining about the pace will not result in less material being covered.
Students who fail to comply with the standards outlined in the syllabus and/or AC’s Student Rights & Responsibilities document will be subject to disciplinary action which may include, but is not limited to: removal from the classroom; consultation with the Math & Engineering Department Chair and/or other AC authority; withdrawal from the course and/or Amarillo College.
The final grades of A (90-100), B (80-89), C (70-79), D (60-69), and F (below 60) will be computed as the average of the earned grades as follows:

Assignments
Expect to have weekly assignments, which can be completed in class. If more time is needed, assignments can be completed outside of class using computers with the Solidworks 2022 application in the Underground or the Math Academic Success Center.
Hand drawn work shall be presented on engineering (quadrille), white printer/copier or lined notebook paper. All hand drawn work must be done neatly using a pencil. If the work is done in ink or cannot be read, I will not grade it, and a grade of zero (0) will be given for the assignment. Collaboration between students is allowed but EACH STUDENT must turn in an ORIGINAL, COMPLETE assignment.
All Blackboard assignments must be uploaded into Blackboard by a specified due date, and may be submitted in advance. Details of the assignments along with the due date will be provided in Black Board.
You must attend class to participate in classwork, complete class work and collaborate with classmates on the design project. The textbook and required supplies must be brought to class since most class work is identified in the textbook.
You will be required to complete a design project; you may work alone or with other classmates. Time will be given in class to work on the design project. Your deliverable will be a technical drawing with an integrated Bill of Materials along with a written report. Concepts taught in class will be incorporated into the design project throughout the semester. 15% of the project grade will be used as the final exam grade so be sure to make time to engage with your team.
Advance notice of each exam, including the exam scope and location will be provided and are tentatively listed in the course calendar. Each exam will comprise 15% of the overall grade for a total of 45%. Absence from an exam will incur a zero (0) unless there is prior notification of the instructor with approval granted or there is an emergency that could not be circumvented. Students who miss an exam because of College or business-related activities should notify the instructor before the absence occurs.
****Note: Tests submitted through Blackboard will required a set time limit. Be sure to pay attention to the timer since once the time expires, you will not be able to submit your test.
If you have been found to have cheated on a test including helping another student cheat a grade of zero (0) may be given for exam as well as a grade of F for the entire course.
Regular attendance is essential for satisfactory completion of this course. Participation grades are a portion of the classroom assignments grades and cannot be made up if absent. It is recommended that you check your email (AC) several times a week.
If you do not come to class prior to Census, Jan. 21, 2025, you will be administratively dropped from the class.
Remember the last date to withdraw from this 8-week course is Tuesday, 2/25/25. If you stop attending class and do not officially withdraw by this deadline, and your final average is below a 60, you will receive an F for the course.
