Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

Calculator: You will need a graphing calculator for this course. The recommended calculator is a Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus. Other forms of Texas Instruments or Casio graphing calculators will be permitted at the instructors discretion. Note that TI-89s, TI-NSpires, and graphing calculator apps are not permitted in the Math Testing Center.
Internet: You need access to reliable internet service to access course materials and online homework on a daily basis. (If your internet service is interrupted, it is also a good idea to have a back up plan for accessing the internet elsewhere so that you can complete your school work!)
Electronic Devices: You will need a working laptop, computer, tablet, or phone with a functioning camera to complete online homework and access optional remote tutoring. You will also need access to a reliable printer to produce class notes, labs, and other materials. (Computers and printers are available for student use in the Underground in the WARE Building on the Washington Street Campus as well as the Math Academic Success Center. Every student has $20 pre-loaded onto their student ID to cover printing costs!)

Your semester grade (90-100 A, 80-89 B, 70-79 C, 60-69 D, below 60 F) will be calculated using the following weights:

Online Homework: Homework problems will be submitted online using MyStatLab. All homework problems can be accessed online through our Blackboard course. If for some reason the Blackboard site is down, students can log directly into MyStatLab at www.pearsonmylabandmastering.com. Students will submit answers to all problems on this website. MyStatLab automatically grades each problem and offers step by step help as you work. Due dates for the online homework will be announced in class. Beyond the due date, students can view but not change the online assignments. All instructions as to registering in MyStatLab will be given in class.
Lab Assignments: During lab time (MW 10:30am - 11:20am), students will work in groups to discuss and present solutions to various problems covering the concepts we have discussed in lecture. Each lab assignment will be posted in Blackboard for the student to print and bring to class; do not complete the assignment before class. Attendance in lab is mandatory. All lab assignments will be completed in PENCIL, submitted during lab, and graded by the instructor. Assignment deadlines will be announced as material is covered. I do not accept early or late lab assignments. If you do not attend lab, you cannot submit the lab for the day to be graded. To compensate for this, two lab assignments will be dropped at the end of the semester.
Exams: Four major exams will be given this semester in addition to a comprehensive final exam. If the final exam is higher than the lowest major exam, the final exam grade will replace it. Otherwise, all major exam grades will be counted in the final average. Major exams will be taken in the Math Testing Center and kept on file. The final exam is taken in class and is tentatively scheduled for 9am on Wednesday, May 7.
Mandatory Tutoring: If your average falls below a 75 after any major exam, you will be required to complete a tutoring for success task in the Math Academic Success center. More information will be given in class.
Extra Credit/Late Work: Extra credit will not be given and late work is not accepted, so please do not ask.
Our course meets Monday - Thursday 9:00 - 10:15am with lab on MW 10:30 - 11:20am. Daily attendance is necessary in both lecture and lab to be successful in this course. You should be on time for class, prepared for class, and actively participate and be on task in class daily. It is the responsibility of the student to sign the attendance sheet daily. Nonattendance will be recorded as an absence, and no differentiation will be made as to excused or unexcused absences. Note that the last day to drop is Tuesday, April 29, 2025. Students now have to go through the instructor to drop a course. The deadline for letting me know you want to drop is 5:00pm on Monday, April 28. Students who stop attending class and do not officially drop will receive a grade of F if their average falls below a 60.

Policy on Cheating and Plagiarism: Plagiarism and cheating will not be tolerated in any math course at Amarillo College. Cheating includes, but is not limited to, copying from another student's paper or using any unauthorized sources of information while taking an exam or quiz. You will be testing in the Math Testing Center and must abide by their cheating & cell phone policy which states: I fully understand that if I cheat, or attempt to cheat, on any test I will receive an automatic "F" in the course. This grade will go on my permanent transcript and cannot be removed. Cheating includes the use of cell phone calculators, the illegal use of books, notes, cell phones, and copying.
