Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.

MATH-1325-002 Calculus for Business & Social Sciences
Prerequisite: MATH 1314 or 1414 College Algebra or MATH 1324 Mathematics for Business and Social Sciences
This course is the basic study of limits and continuity, differentiation, optimization and graphing, and integration of elementary functions, with emphasis on applications in business, economics, and social sciences. This course is not a substitute for MATH 2313 or 2413, Calculus I.

Online Course
Basic: Pencil, photo id, erasers, highlighters.

Calculator: You will need a graphing calculator for this course. All computations and demonstrations in class will be done using a TI-84. Any calculator in the TI-84 family will work. (The Math Department policy is that no TI-89’s or TI-92’s may be used on tests.)
Printer: Access to a printer in order to print out the notes is important. Please remember that as students you have $20 of free printing from the school, so printing off the notes should effectively be free. If you are unsure where to go to print off the notes at the school, please let me know, and I will do my best to direct you.

Students are expected to behave online in a manner that is supportive of the learning environment. Cheating is defined in Webster's College Dictionary as "taking an examination in a dishonest way, as by having improper access to answers." Improper access includes, but is not limited to, copying from another student's paper and using unauthorized sources of information while taking a test. Any student caught cheating will receive an F for the course. Any student caught with a smart watch or cell phone while testing will receive an F for the course.
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board sets the topics that must be covered in order to receive credit for a course. The instructor sets the pace to ensure that these requirements are met. Any student having trouble maintaining the pace should seek extra help from the instructor and/or a tutor.
Daily Homework: Daily homework assignments will consist of online assignments. Online assignments will be submitted using MyMathLab (aka MyLab Math) and will be automatically graded on the website. Details on how to register and enroll in MyMathLab will be given in Blackboard. Assignment deadlines will be indicated on the course calendar and also in MyMathLab with each homework set. At the end of the semester, two homework grades will be dropped.
Reviews: The midterm and final have a review to complete that must be printed from Blackboard. In order to take an exam, you must turn in a completed exam review to the Math Testing Center right before you take the exam.
Quizzes: Weekly quizzes will be taken in MyMathLab. You will have two attempts for each one, and I will accept the higher of the two grades. These quizzes are timed and cover the homework for the week. At the end of the semester, one lowest quiz grade will be dropped.
Late Work: Deadlines are your responsibility. Due dates are posted on the MyMathLab website and in the class in Blackboard (through the AC Connect Portal). However, because this is an online course, I can tailor it to your individual needs without disrupting the flow of the course. If you need a deadline extension for a MyMathLab homework assignment (up to 2 days maximum), please don't hesitate to ask. I will extend ONE online quiz (up to 2 days maximum) if you miss a due date. No extensions will be granted beyond July 20. Also, no extensions are available for the midterm or the final exam.
Midterm: 1 in-person midterm exam will be given during the semester in the Math Testing Center, more details are in Blackboard. The midterm will be available to take Friday, 6/27, Saturday, 6/28, and Monday, 6/30. If you know ahead of time that you will be missing an exam, you may schedule to take the exam early. Only under extenuating, verifiable circumstances and at the discretion of the instructor will an exam be given early. Make-up exams will not be given.
Final Exam: The mandatory in-person comprehensive final exam will be available Monday, 7/21, through Wednesday, 7/23, in the math testing center (more details in Blackboard). Only under extenuating, verifiable circumstances and at the discretion of the instructor will an exam be given early. Make-up exams will not be given.
Your course average (A 100 - 90, B 89 - 80, C 79 - 70, D 69 - 60, F Below 60) will be calculated using the following scale:

Regular attendance is essential in a math class. It is during class that questions about homework, new assignments & announcements, and course content will be covered.
Please remember the deadline for dropping this course in Summer 2025 is Tuesday, July 15. If you wish to drop, you must notify me and complete a withdrawal form by the deadline. Therefore, you should notify me by 5:00 PM on Monday, July 14, 2025 that you wish to withdraw. Financial aid ramifications may exist, so I strongly advise you to consult your advisor before dropping any course. If you stop attending class and your average drops below a 60 due to missed assignments and you do not officially drop the course by this deadline, you will receive an F for the course.

Phones/Pagers: It is the policy of the Mathematics & Engineering Department that cell phones and pagers must be turned off or on silent mode in the classrooms and the computer labs. During testing, phones must be stored out of sight and in silent mode. If a student answers a call during a test, the test will be collected and graded with no further work being done.
