AI Statement

Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Exam Information:
There will be four unit exams throughout this 16-week course, held online through Blackboard as specified in the course schedule. The best way to prepare for exams is to complete the assigned readings, discussions, and quizzes. Exams will include material from the unit modules, as well as supplemental information provided in Blackboard and the textbook.

Make-Up Policy:
If a student misses an exam, they must notify the instructor as soon as possible. Any student who misses an exam without a documented, excused reason will receive a grade reduction on that exam.

Late Work:
Late work may be accepted at the instructor’s discretion but is expected to be submitted by the deadlines provided in Blackboard and the course schedule. Late submissions will incur a deduction of 10% of the total possible points for each day late, up to a maximum deduction of 50% after five days. Exceptions may be considered for documented medical issues, family emergencies, or other significant and justifiable reasons. Students must contact the instructor as soon as possible to discuss their situation and provide appropriate documentation.

Attendance

Attendance is not a factor in an online course; however, your participation in discussions, quizzes, written prompts, and other assignments is expected in order to maintain an active presence in the course.

This course schedule is subject to change at the discretion of the instructor. Any changes to the course schedule or syllabus will be communicated to students via Blackboard Messenger as soon as reasonably possible.

If any questions or concerns arise, students are welcome to make an appointment via Blackboard Messenger or call my office phone during regular business hours. I will answer whenever I am available at my desk. Under no circumstances will I exchange personal phone numbers with students for class communication; all communication must be conducted during office hours, scheduled appointments, or office calls to my desk phone. Meetings with students—whether one-on-one, over the phone, or via Zoom—may be recorded with the consent of both the student and the instructor for safety and record-keeping purposes. Communication through your classroom facilitator is welcome but may result in delays, so students are always encouraged to reach out to the instructor directly.
