Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.
Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Course Materials:
Each student must provide writing/note-taking materials. You will be using pencil;/pen and paper for in-class assignments and activities.
Assignments:
Speeches-Students will deliver 4 major speeches during the course. These speeches account for a large percentage of your final grade, 40%
Each student will turn in a typed outline prior to delivering the speech in class. Speeches will be graded on delivery, organization and content; Speakers will deliver their speeches extemporaneously—that is, the speaker will be familiar enough with the speech to rely only on a few note-cards. Writing the speech in essay form is unnecessary and counterproductive. Speakers will not stand behind a podium, chew gum or wear a hat while speaking.
Student will also have various in class Mini Speeches. These are “low stakes” assignments that are meant to serve as practice for major speeches. There will be no make ups available for these speeches.
Homework:
Students are. responsible for their own chapter reading assignments. These, MCGra Hill “Smartbook” assignments are found in the Weekly Folders in Blackboard. You will be responsible for reading the material and answering the questions as you go. These reading assignments are due on Monday each week (except for week 1). These assignments count toward your final grade. I do not accept late work for the McGraw Hill “Smartbook” assignments.
Mid-term and Final Exam:
These are speaking assignments
Will include material covered during the course. Will be available on-line during week 4 and the last week of class.
Extra Credit:
Five points will be added to your final grade for completing the “Written Critique of a Speaker” essay. The instructions are found in Blackboard.
In order to receive your AC Connect Email, you must log in through AC Connect at https://acconnect.actx.edu .

No form of scholastic dishonesty will be tolerated. Scholastic dishonesty shall include, but not be limited to, cheating on a test, plagiarism, and collusion.
