Contacting Me

The best way to contact me is through your Amarillo College (AC) email account or Blackboard Messages.

If you send a message through Blackboard, please check the box at the bottom of the message so that a copy is also sent to my email.

You may also call or text my cell phone at 806-341-9718. If you leave a voicemail or send a text, please include your:

  • Name
  • Course
  • Section number

This information helps me identify your class and respond to your question more efficiently.

Response Time

I generally respond to emails and Blackboard messages within 24–48 hours during the workweek.

Messages, emails, and texts sent after 6:00 PM, on weekends, or on college holidays may not be answered until the next business day. I occasionally check messages outside of these hours, but an immediate response should not be expected.

Please plan accordingly when you have questions about assignments. Waiting until the day or evening an assignment is due to contact me does not guarantee that you will receive a response before the deadline.

If you have not received a response after 48 hours during the workweek, please feel free to follow up.

Fall Office Hours & Appointments

I am available to meet with students during the following regular office hours:

Tuesdays &Thursday: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM

Students are welcome to stop by during my regular Monday–Thursday office hours for assistance with course content, assignments, grades, or other course-related questions.

If you are unable to meet during these hours, please contact me through AC email or Blackboard Messages. I will be happy to work with you to schedule an appointment at a mutually convenient time.

Meetings may be held:

  • In person at my office
  • Virtually through Google Meet, FaceTime, or another approved platform

  • Blackboard Announcements – Course updates, reminders, deadlines, and other important information
  • Blackboard Messages/AC Email – Individual communication between students and the instructor

Students are expected to check Blackboard announcements, messages, and their AC email at least every other day. You are responsible for information communicated through these channels.

Professional Communication Expectations

All communication in this course—including email, Blackboard Messages, discussion boards, text messages, and other course-related communication—must remain professional, respectful, and courteous.

You are always welcome to ask questions, disagree with a grade, request clarification, or express a concern. However, disagreement or frustration does not excuse disrespectful or inappropriate communication.

The following will not be tolerated:

  • Rude, condescending, insulting, or demeaning language
  • Profanity, personal attacks, threats, or harassment
  • Demanding that a grade or course decision be changed
  • Repeatedly sending messages because you have not received an immediate response
  • Disrespectful comments directed toward the instructor or another student

If you disagree with a grade, please review the assignment instructions, grading rubric, and instructor feedback before contacting me. I am happy to explain a grade or discuss your concerns, but I will not engage in disrespectful, threatening, or abusive communication.

Students who send inappropriate or disrespectful messages may be asked to rewrite the communication professionally before the issue is addressed. Serious or repeated behavior may be documented and referred to the appropriate college administrator in accordance with the Amarillo College Student Code of Conduct.

Professional communication is an expectation of this course and an important skill for anyone preparing to work in the criminal justice field.

Scholastic Integrity

Scholastic honesty is not only assumed, but required, of all students in all coursework and exams as they relate to this course. This instructor maintains a zero-tolerance policy with regards to occurrences of scholastic dishonesty. Occurrences of scholastic dishonesty will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis and will result in a grade of zero for the applicable assignment and/or removal from the course. Scholastic dishonesty is defined in the Amarillo College Student Code of Conduct as “…shall include, but not be limited to, cheating on a test, plagiarism, and collusion.” Determinations of scholastic dishonesty may be substantiated if a student engages in any of the following behaviors:

  • Function as a substitute for another student in any assignment or exam, or utilizes a substitute in any assignment or exam
  • Utilizes the assistance of others, including other students, or engages in “collusion” in relation to any assignment or exam to the extent the work is not characteristic of the student's capabilities. Collusion is defined in the Amarillo College Student Code of Conduct as: “… the unauthorized collaboration with another person in preparing written work for fulfillment of course requirements.”
  •  Affords excessive assistance to another student in relation to any assignment or exam, including the unauthorized use of camera phones, text messages, photocopies, notes or other means to copy or photograph materials used or intended for academic submission.
  • Commits plagiarism; refer to the Amarillo College Student Code of Conduct which defines plagiarism as: “…the appropriating, buying, receiving as a gift, or obtaining by any means another’s work and the unacknowledged submission or incorporation of it in one’s own written work.”
  • Uses information and/or materials from the Internet or any other source without citing full and applicable credit
  • Knowingly permits his or her work to be submitted by another student in connection with any assignment or exam
  • Claims credit for or submits work done by another student

Exam procedures

Exams:

Each student will be required to take six chapter exams and a mandatory comprehensive final during the semester.

All test will open at 9:00am on Monday and will remain open until 11:59p.m on Monday. While these exams ARE NOT OPEN BOOK, I realize you will have access to your book, you will not have enough time to look up the answers. Having the test online does not mean you will not have to study for the exams.  Please do not wait until 11:30p.m. to start your test, should you have computer problems it would be too late to try and fix the issue and still have time to take the test.  You will only have one attempt at the test. Once the test is started you cannot pause the test, so be prepared to start and finish the test in one sitting. Once you begin the test, should you have any technical difficulties please text me and I will assist you the best that I can.

TEST DATES ARE LOCATED IN THE COURSE CALENDAR IN BLACKBOARD

Makeup Policy:

There will not be an opportunity to make up any test, quizzes, or assignments. PLEASE DO NOT ASK TO MAKE UP WORK. It is critical that you learn to turn assignments in on time and to take tests when scheduled. This policy is in place because in the field of criminal justice it is critical that things such as (police reports, court reports, etc.) get done and turned in on time.

If you miss the final because for any reason, you will receive a zero for that test, no makeup exam will be given.

.
