Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.

BIOL-2402-020 Anatomy and Physiology II
Prerequisite: BIOL 2401
Anatomy and Physiology II is the second part of a two-course sequence. It is a study of the structure and function of the human body including the following systems: endocrine, cardiovascular, immune, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive (including nutrition), urinary (including fluid and electrolyte balance) and reproductive (including human development and genetics). Emphasis is on interrelationships among systems and regulation of physiological functions involved in maintaining homeostasis. The lab provides a hands-on learning experience for exploration of human system components and basic physiology.

Classroom behavior should not interfere with the instructor’s ability to conduct the class or the ability of other students to learn from the instructional program. Unacceptable or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.

Cell phones and other electronic devices should be turned off, muted, or on vibrate and left in your book bags, etc. during the lecture periods. You are more than welcome to record the lectures if you choose.
Refrain from visiting with each other unless it is for the entire class to hear. Students engaging in unacceptable behavior may be instructed to leave the classroom.
All work must be completed individually unless otherwise stated. Commission of any of the following acts shall constitute scholastic dishonesty: acquiring or providing information for any assigned work or examination from any unauthorized source; informing any person or persons of the contents of any examination prior to the time the exam is given in any subsequent sections of the course or as a makeup; plagiarism; submission of a paper or project that is substantially the same for two courses unless expressly authorized by the instructor to do so.
Grievance Procedure: If a student is having a problem with the course policies or the instructor, he or she should first try to resolve any such problems with the instructor. If the problem is not resolved, the student may proceed to the Biology Department Chairman, Mr. Dan Porter.
Course Grade: Made up of the following
LECTURE:
45% of Total Grade – There will be a minimum of 4 Lecture Exams each worth 100 points. The lowest of the exams will be dropped if all exams have been taken. If an exam is missed for a valid and excused reason as determined by Dr. Lee, then that will be the one which is dropped. There will be no make up tests given since there is one lecture exam grade dropped. The Final Exam will not be dropped regardless of your score. The tests will be 50 questions multiple choice, matching, and true/false. Exams (with the exception of the Final Exam) will be administered through the Student Testing Center (STC).
10% of Total Grade will come from Quizzes which will be given in class over the material to be on an upcoming exam. One Quiz grade will be dropped as well therefore there will be no make up on Quizzes. If you arrive to class after the Quiz has been given you will not be permitted to take the Quiz at that time unless with prior approval or a valid reason as approved by Dr. Lee.
LABORATORY:
20% of Total Grade derived from Lab Practicals and Quizzes. There will be a minimum of 2 Lab Practicals and 2 Lab Quizzes. Lab Practicals are a minimum of 50 fill-in-the-blank questions. All lab practicals will be counted toward your overall grade however one Lab Quiz may be dropped. There will be no make up quizzes since there will be a dropped quiz. A make up practical will only be given for a valid reason as determined by Dr. Lee.
5% of Total Grade - Chapter Review Sheets. All Review Sheets assigned from various exercises in the Lab Manual must be turned in in lab to receive this portion of your overall course grade.
FINAL EXAM:
20% of Total Grade The Final Exam is mandatory and will be comprehensive covering all lecture material from the first day of the course. The test will be comprised of multiple choice, matching, and true/false questions. The Final Exam is given in class and you will need to be on time. Once the first person turns in their test no one arriving late will be able to start, so if you are late you will get a zero for the final. Everyone is expected to take the Final Exam on the day and time given for the test.

A: 89.5 - 100% of total points
B: 79.5 - 89.4%
C: 69.5 - 79.4%
D: 59.5 - 69.4%
F: < 59.5%
Regular attendance, both in lecture and in lab, is extremely important to doing well in this course. We have a large amount of material to cover in a short amount of time and therefore you must not fall behind.
Attendance will either be taken each day in Lecture and in Lab or there will be an attendance sheet to be signed by yourself and no one else.
You can only get out of course what you put in to it, so please try to be in class and lab for each day.

SCIENCE TESTING CENTER:

All tests, excluding the Final Exam, will be taken in the Science Testing Center during days scheduled by the teacher during normal Science Testing Center hours. Tests will be taken outside of class lecture time.
Please note: No test may be started less than one and a half hours before the Science Testing Center closes. You must present an Amarillo College student ID (physical not digital) every time you take a test. The Science Testing Center staff will retain your ID while you take your test and it will be returned to you when you turn in your test. When using the Science Testing Center students will scan in and out with their Amarillo College student I.D. You must schedule your test in advance, this can be done in person, online, or by phone.

MANDATORY TUTORING & DEPARTMENT POLICY: WARREN HALL 110
In an effort to increase retention in Biology courses, any student who scores below a 75% course average must complete a mandatory tutoring session with an SASC tutor. Mandatory tutoring requires that students must schedule a tutoring time with the SASC by either calling (806 345-5536), going to the online scheduling portal, or visiting Warren Hall 110.
The center will do its best to accommodate a students' schedule within the hours of operation. This may require plenty of advanced notice by the student as time slots fill quickly. Upon arrival at the SASC, students must inform staff that they are required to take mandatory tutoring. The first instance of mandatory tutoring will be for 60 minutes. Subsequent instances of mandatory tutoring will be for 30 minutes.
WEATHER CLOSING POLICY:
If Amarillo College campuses are closed because of inclement weather, an official announcement will be made through all local television stations and KGNC radio. The message will also be posted on the college website and a recorded message on the College’s main telephone number (806) 371-5000. I will also post an "Announcement" in BB course.
Morning closings will be announced by 6:30 a.m. Decision's to close or change afternoon/evening classes will be made by 3:00 p.m. If a decision to cancel classes or close a campus is made during the day, students will be notified through the media and AC website. Additionally, I will send out an "Announcement" in the BB course. If no announcement is made, the College is open as normally scheduled.
*Please listen closely to weather announcements as one campus may be closed while others remain open.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
Once again, I cannot stress how important it is to attend each lecture and lab session and to not fall behind.

It is my firm belief that it is possible to have a good time while learning Anatomy & Physiology at the same time.
