Consistency with and connection to curriculum design:

Workplace Skills for the OTA and Fieldwork I and II are capstone courses in the OTA curriculum at Amarillo College. These courses emphasize entry level preparation based on all prior courses. The learner is equipped with knowledge of self,  healthcare systems and the profession of occupational therapy enabling the learner to practice therapeutic use of self. The Workplace Skills course specifically addresses the program goal of developing lifelong learners. Learners are responsible for creating a study plan to prepare for the certification exam, following and reporting on completion of the study plan, development of high-stakes test-taking skills,  knowing the process and action steps for licensure in their state of choice, and identifying continuing education courses to fulfill their first license renewal period after graduation. The students develop a plan to continue NBCOT certification through a variety of options as allowed by NBCOT.

Expected Student Behavior

ENHANCED ONLINE LEARNING/Professional Development = 10%

Being prompt and attending class

This portion of the grade is based on prompt and full attendance of class time. The learner begins the semester with 100 points in this category worth 10% of the course grade.

For each time the learner is ABSENT from the course, 4 points will be deducted from the current points available.

For each time the learner is late/tardy/out of class for less than the full class time, 2 points will be deducted from the current points available. Examples include but are not limited to:

  • arriving after the start of the online session by any amount of time
  • leaving prior to the end of the online session
  • loosing connection or trouble logging into the virtual session that reduces attendance will be counted as being late/tardy/out of class

A learner can lose several points quickly if in one day they arrive late, go to the car to get books, and leave early. That would be a total of 6 points off the professional development grade for the course.

Grading Criteria

The final course grade will be computed as follows:

                       NBCOT practice exams                                             50%

                        Weekly submissions/portfolio                                20%

                       OTKE                                                                             20%

                       Enhanced online learning/professional development        10%

                        Final Grade                                                                100%

Attendance

The learner will engage in full time fieldwork experience to compliment this course. In addition, the learner will be required to attend enhanced online learning sessions virtually 8-10 times across the semester. The dates and times for the online sessions will be determined by the learners and faculty collaboratively.

Attendance for each virtual session is required. On camera presence for the entire session supports best learning.

The learner will be present virtually in an environment that supports a collaborative and engaging situation for everyone involved. Please limit distractions which might interfere with your classmates ability to focus. You might need to mute the sound to help others in the class hear content clearly.
