Collusion is defined as “the unauthorized collaboration with another person or by any other means, including artificial intelligence (AI) and computer translators, in preparing work for fulfillment of course requirements.” Using AI like (ChatGPT or Google Gemini) to create a document is considered colluding. The use of Generative Artificial Intelligence on specific assignments is at the discretion of the instructor.

Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Generative AI, like ChatGPT, is not to be used for creating, drafting, or otherwise producing written content/assignments.

The final grade will be based on the average of four exams, in-class writing assignments, one out-of class written assignment, and participation. The grading scale is as follows:
A= 90 and above
B= 80 and above
C= 70 and above
D=59 and above
F=58 and below
Required Examinations: There will be four exams during the course of the semester. Exams will be multiple choice and cover both material presented in class and the textbook. Completing the assigned readings and taking notes during class are essential for success on the exams. Exams will be taken in class (see class schedule for dates). The four exams will comprise 75% of your class grade. I will drop the lowest score.
Make-up Policy: All make-up exams must be arranged with the instructor. If the student misses an exam, the student must arrange to take the exam within one week of the scheduled test date and are at the instructor's discretion. Make-up exams will be deducted -10 points unless accompanied by an excused absence at instructor's discretion.
In-Class Writing assignments: We will periodically do in-class short answer and essay responses. These will be a combination of open book/notes and closed book/notes. These will constitute 10% of the total class grade.
Political Bias assignment: The instructor will provide instructions to the assignment in Blackboard. The assignment will constitute 10% of the total class grade. Late assignments will be deducted -10 points everyday they are late (including weekends). You will submit this assignment in blackboard. The assignment must be your original original work and used only for this course.
Participation: Participation will constitute 5% of the total class grade. I will drop the three lowest scores.
You are expected to do the assigned readings before class time and bring your book to every class.

I will not deduct points from your overall class grade for absences. Repeated absences will be reflected in the Participation section of the total class grade.
