Collusion is defined as “the unauthorized collaboration with another person or by any other means, including artificial intelligence (AI) and computer translators, in preparing work for fulfillment of course requirements.” Using AI like (ChatGPT or Google Gemini) to create a document is considered colluding. The use of Generative Artificial Intelligence on specific assignments is at the discretion of the instructor.

Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.
Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills and concepts to clients on medical surgical units. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional.

Students are to be prepared for the clinical setting with the appropriate supplies and materials.
Each student will adhere to the student handbook policies and procedures, the Amarillo College Nursing Honor Code Policy, Social Networking Policy, and all agency policies, including HIPAA.
Any violation of these policies and procedures may result in failure of the course and possible dismissal from the program.
Students are not permitted to use their cell phone in clinical areas while on duty for personal calls (incoming or outgoing.)
In addition, you must silence your phone since it can disturb patients and staff.
Texting is also not permitted during the clinical day except during lunch/breaks.
DO NOT use your cell phone while walking the halls to or from break.
Furthermore, smart watches are not permitted in the patient care areas.
Please refrain from using your phone until you have sat down for your break.
Failure to comply with cell phone policy may result in a clinical warning and failure of the course.
AC and the facility are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
When in the role of a student in any clinical setting, the student is to be professional in appearance.
Student uniforms must be worn in the Skills Hub & HSSC during ALL skills and Simulation times.
Students are prohibited from wearing the clinical uniform out in public when consuming alcoholic beverages. When you wear the uniform, you are representing Amarillo College.
In addition, students must leave the clinical area/facilities after clinical and may not wear the uniform if visiting friends or family after the rotation has ended. Please change clothing before visiting.

A final grade of 75 is required to pass the course.
The following will be used to determine your grade:
WBLE- 100% (Includes: Head to Toe & Medication Administration Check-offs, Documentation (EHR & Paper), Simulation, & Project Presentation)
GRADING CRITERIA:
Rubrics will be utilized to evaluate student performance.
Clinical warnings will be given prior to failure to promote student success.
Regular and ON TIME attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement.
100% clinical attendance is required.
The maximum days you can miss (absences) is two days.
All absences must be made up by the end of the semester to continue on in the program.
If you leave during your clinical shift, this will count as a clinical absence.
Students are required to produce appropriate documentation of illness, injury, accident etc. that caused the absence.
Any student that leaves the clinical site without permission will fail the course. This is considered abandonment of patients and falls under the TXBON rule 15.6 A nurse's duty to a patient.
If you need to call in sick, please do so 2 hours before your scheduled arrival time. Follow the protocols set forth by your clinical instructor. If you are late and the clinical group has already left the meeting point you will be counted absent for the day.
Any absence without notification BEFORE the scheduled clinical begins will result in a corrective action for rule violation (i.e. a clinical warning) resulting in point deduction from the overall grade.
Please note: corrective action write-up for rule violations and poor performance are placed in the students file and follow them throughout the program.
Students that are not in compliance with the dress code and required supplies to the clinical site are sent home for the day. Students must make-up the absence, and will also receive a corrective action write-up with point deductions.
The clinical schedule will be handed out during Clinical Orientation.
Clinicals are scheduled on Thursdays & Fridays from 0600-1430.
