Collusion is defined as “the unauthorized collaboration with another person or by any other means, including artificial intelligence (AI) and computer translators, in preparing work for fulfillment of course requirements.” Using AI like (ChatGPT or Google Gemini) to create a document is considered colluding. The use of Generative Artificial Intelligence on specific assignments is at the discretion of the instructor.

Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.
Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) This course is a comprehensive study of Microsoft Word. Word is a word processing program used to prepare, format, and manage documents, including the creation and enhancement of tables to organize data and the use of mail merge to produce and personalize letters, labels, and directories.
In addition, coursework includes learning to format and write business documents such as letters and memos, an introduction to Windows 11 operating system, file management in a Windows environment, and keyboarding practice to increase your personal speed and accuracy.
The final exam is the requirement to sit for a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification exam. This will be completed at Amarillo College's Testing Center (in person) and is a requirement for successful completion of the course.

Students are expected to maintain a high standard of individual honor in their scholastic work. Students who are guilty of cheating, plagiarism, copying, or dishonesty may receive a 0 on an assignment; may be excluded from class with a grade of F; or, in flagrant cases, may be suspended from the College.
The Faculty of the Business Technology Program reserve the right to ask a student to verify any portion of a test or assignment by reproducing any specific section or the entire test/assignment in question.
Any action that compromises the computer systems at Amarillo College, including but not limited to hacking or cracking, can result in a grade of "F" in this course and possible further disciplinary action.
Mandatory Tutoring Policy
Any time a student's overall course grade drops below a 75, or two or more assignments have not been completed by the due date, that student is required to attend a 1-hour tutoring session. This session can be scheduled directly with the instructor or with AC's Tutoring Center.
Grade Calculations
Course grades will be assigned such that grades scored between:
89.5% and 100% = A
79.5% and less than 89.5% = B
69.5% and less than 79.5% = C
59.5% and less than 69.5% = D
0% and less than 59.5% = F
Student evaluation is based upon the following assignments and assignment weights:
Introductory Assignments: 5%
Word Training / MOS Skills Training: 10%
Preparing Business Documents (Letters & Memos): 15%
Word Projects / MOS Skills Projects: 25%
Typing Lessons: 10%
5-Minute Typing Assessments: 15%
Final Project or MOS Certification (Word): 20%
Assignment Checklist
An assignment checklist is posted in the Blackboard course identifying when each chapter is covered, when assignments are due, and when the final exam will be administered.
Please take a few minutes and record all due dates on your calendar.
Late Penalties
Assignments will only remain open 7 days after their due date. Assignments may be completed for full credit during that grace period and no credit provided after the grace period expires. Exception: 5-Minute Typing Assessments only receive a 2-day grace period.
Reach out to your instructor as soon as possible if some hurdle is preventing you from completing your assignments on time.
