Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.

Administrative Drop Policy

Statement on State-Authorized Courses at Amarillo College

Courses in the state-authorized lower-division Academic Course Guide Manual and Workforce Education Course Manual have specific descriptions that prescribe course content and may include specific student learning outcomes. Reviews (completion)

5%

Major Exams (4 Exams, no drops)

Final Exam

20%

Online Homework (10%): Daily homework will be completed online using the MyMathLab website. Help buttons will be available for each problem in MyMathLab, and you may rework problems multiple times until you get the correct answer. MyMathLab due dates are posted on the class schedule in Blackboard and also on the MyMathLab website. No late homework will be accepted. Though this homework will be submitted online, I strongly recommend that you keep an organized log of written work in your notebook to better learn the process of solving problems.

Milestones (Quizzes) (10%):  Milestone quizzes will be given regularly in class. See the course calendar for dates. To support your preparation, all milestones are available on Blackboard—feel free to print and practice them outside of class. If you do not achieve 100%, you will need to review the material and attempt a new version of the milestone at the end of next class meeting. You may take a milestone two (2) times, the higher grade will be recorded.

Review Worksheets (5%): Following each unit of instruction, a review worksheet (with solutions) can be printed from Blackboard. The review worksheet functions as a practice exam. Complete this review, and submit it in the Math Testing Center as a "ticket" to take the exam. You will not be allowed to take the exam without a completed review. Reviews are graded for completion.

Exams (55%): Four (4) major exams will be given outside of class time in the Math Testing Center [WARE 123]. Exams must be taken during the time frame provided in the course calendar. No late exams will be accepted and no extensions will be given.

Final Exam (20%): A comprehensive final exam will be administered in Week 8. If your final exam score is higher than your lowest major exam grade, it will replace that lowest grade while also counting as your final exam score. The final exam must be completed by October 14th. Late exams will not be accepted.

Mandatory Tutoring: If your average falls below 75% after a major exam, you will be required to complete one hour of mandatory tutoring in the Math Academic Success Center. Further information will be sent by email if this applies to you.

Extra Credit: Extra credit will not be given.

Attendance

Attendance:  Daily attendance is required every day in class. Roll will be taken at the beginning of class, so please be on time. If you miss class, you can keep up with the calendar by watching lecture videos available in Blackboard and completing the notes for that day. Milestones must be completed in class.

Withdrawal: Note that the last day to drop is Tuesday, October 6th. Submit a withdraw form to me by 12PM (noon) on 10/6 in order to process your drop before the deadline. Students who stop attending class and do not officially drop will receive a grade of F if their average falls below a 60. No late drops will be given.
