Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) WECM End-of Course Outcomes: Service, diagnose, and repair vehicle systems maintain shop facilities and equipment.

REQUIRED SUPPLEMENTAL TASKS

Shop and Personal Safety

  • Demonstrate awareness of the safety aspects of high voltage circuits (such as high intensity discharge (HID) lamps, ignition systems, injection systems, etc.).

  • Locate and demonstrate knowledge of material safety data sheets (MSDS).

Preparing Vehicle for Service

  • Identify information needed and the service requested on a repair order.

  • Identify purpose and demonstrate proper use of fender covers, mats.

In order to receive your AC Connect Email, you must log in through AC Connect at https://acconnect.actx.edu .

If you are an active staff or faculty member according to Human Resources, use "Exchange". All other students, use "AC Connect (Google) Email".

Expected Student Behavior

Students are required to comply with the Amarillo College Technical Education Code of Professional Conduct. The Amarillo College Technical Education Code of Professional Conduct will be posted on the bulletin board in the Transportation Career Center and the Academic Classroom Center and will be explained in detail by the Instructor on the first day of class.

Late work will be accepted with a deduction of 30 points no later than three days after due date.

Attendance

Attendance and Participation grading for class

The following outline will be used for daily grading for all classes from 8:00-12:30

Points will start to be deducted for arriving after 8:00 for showing up at

8:10-8:20-----10

8:20-8:30-----20

8:30-8:45-----30

8:45-9:00-----40

9:00-and after 50+

Showing up after 9:00 without a valid excuse, and you may be sent home for the day. Repeatedly showing up late will result in more points being deducted for each occurrence.

Leaving early, without getting your instructors permission first, will be counted the same as a tardy.

As is stated in the syllabus, 3 tardy’s equal an absence. Up to 10 points may be deducted from your final grade for each absence.

You must sign in and sign out every day. If you do not sign out, you will be given a 50 for the day, even if you were in class all day. Put the actual time you showed up on the sign in sheet and be honest. If I catch you putting a fake time in or signing out before the day is over, I will take off more points than what I have listed in the rubric above.

If you can’t make it to class, if you at least send me an e-mail letting me know that, along with the reason why before the start of the class, I will give you 25 pts for the day. It is not much but at least it’s not a Zero.

This grade is attendance AND PARTICIPATION. You can be in class all day, but that doesn’t mean you may get a 100. Points can also be deducted for things like but not limited to, being on your cell phone during class time, sleeping, rude or obnoxious behavior, not participating in class discussions or labs, not following directions from your instructor, or any other behavior not fit for a classroom environment.

If you have any questions about this criteria, feel free to discuss them with me personally.

You are expected to attend all class meetings on time and stay for the entire class. Points will be deducted from your attendance and participation grade on a scale based on how late you show up, or for leaving early before class is dismissed.

Ten points may be deducted from your final grade for each absence.

Calendar

This class is an accumulation of your learning in the Automotive Program. Every day we will work on labs in the shop. Every day you need to take time before you leave to write up a daily log of your participation for the day and turn it in. Lab grades will be based on your participation.

Additional Information

Some information presented may be manufacturer specific. 

You MUST get your Instructor's permission to bring a vehicle into the shop. If you do not, you WILL be asked to leave the shop.

Vehicles are not to remain "overnight". Any work performed MUST be completed by the end of class. Verify you have ALL parts and supplies needed to complete any maintenance or repair. If unsure, ask your instructor prior to work being started.  

All vehicles brought into the shop MUST have a repair order filled out and placed on the windshield. 

Honk your horn prior to entering and leaving the shop. 

Have a window down and keys outside of the vehicle to prevent being locked out.
