Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) An exploration of principles, methods and materials for teaching young children music, movement, visual arts and dramatic play through process-oriented experiences to support divergent thinking.

Textbooks

Mayesky:  Creative Activities for Young Children, 11th edition, 2015, Cengage Learning.  Textbook is bundled with Blackboard Edition Mindlink at the AC Bookstore.  Mindlink is necessary in order to view all of the publisher content including the teach source videos.

Supplies

 Students will need access to a computer and the internet.

2. Describe the role of play in a child's growth and developemnt.

4. Analyze teacher roles in enhancing creativity.
5. Describe concepts taught through the creative arts.
6. Describe components of creative environments.
7. Plan, implement, and assess child-centered activities for music, movement, visual arts and dramatic play.

Expected Student Behavior

Students are expected to follow all Amarillo College policies and procedures.

Grading Criteria

A maximum of 600 points will be possible.

Grade point distribution:

4 exams                                    400 points

Music/movement activity            75  points

Art activity                                  75  points

5 Mindtap videos                       50 points

                     TOTAL               600 points

Final Grades:

540 - 600  = A

480 - 539 = B

420 - 479 = C

360 - 419 = D

Below 360 = F

 

 

  • 4 exams (400 points total)  Each exam is worth 100 points.

Tests may consist of multiple choice, short answer, and/or matching.  All exams will be taken on line.

  • Music/movement activity (75 points)

Plan an appropriate music and/or movement activity to do with a group of children.  Include your lesson plan and materials needed for the activity.

  • Art Activity (75 points)

Plan a developmentally appropriate art activity for young children.  Include lesson plan and materials for the activity.

  • 5 Mindtap videos( 50 points Total @10 per video)                                                                                                                     Watch the following videos and answer the questions associated with each from Chapters 6, 7, 10, 16, and 17.

Attendance

This class is Hybrid for 8 weeks.  The class opens on Monday, October 25, and meets in person for the first class on Thursday, October 28.

  • Log in frequently.  Complete and submit assignments and exams by the due date.
  • Read the assigned chapters in the book.
  • Satisfactorily complete exams with 70% mastery or above.
  • The Introduction activity will verify your course participation for the Census Roster.  It must be completed by January 25, or you may be dropped from the class.
  • Be a team player: dependable, hard working, and helpful.

Additional Information

  • If for some reason, you are unable to complete the course, be sure to notify the Instructor before December 8, 2021, which is the last day to drop a course.
  • Any student who, because of a disabling condition, may require some special arrangement in order to meet the course requirements should contact Accessibility Services at 371-5436 as soon as possible.
  • This is a hybrid class.  Read and know the course syllabus.  The syllabus is the contract for the class.  You will complete the course exams online.
  • Log in daily.  Check mail messages and course announcements.
  • Read the assigned chapters and view any media assigned.
  • Make-up assignments/exams are at the instructor's discretion. Plan ahead so late work will not be a concern.
