Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Upon successful completion of this course, students will:

  • Identify and apply the elements of art and principles of two-dimensional design.
  • Employ discipline specific vocabulary in the evaluation of two-dimensional design problems.
  • Demonstrate creative skill in aesthetic problem solving within assigned parameters.
  • Demonstrate an appropriate level of professional practice, including safety, craft and presentation.

Specific Course Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate effective communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship of the Visual Arts and Social Responsibility.
  • Communicate ideas verbally and visually by using design vocabulary

Expected Student Behavior

Students are required to show professionalism, discipline, attention, respect, participation, and cooperation.

Grading Criteria

Grades will be posted as a letter grade which will be derived from the following schema:

A = 90% - 99.9%
B = 80% - 89.9%
C = 70% - 79.9%
D = 60% - 69.9%
F =    0% - 59.9%

 

Each student’s grade will be based upon his/her performance on each of the following:

Project Expectation

The projects will be executed in a professional manor and displayed at the time of the critique. In-class critiques are a vital tool to help students understand and talk about their own work. If a project is not presented at the critique, the grade for that project will be subject to a 20% penalty.  

Class Participation

Class participation is mainly concerned with the students’ participation in project critiques, in-class discussions, demonstrations, guest speakers, in-class exercises and attitude throughout the course. 

Attendance

No more than two class periods may be missed without approval from the instructor. After two absences, the final class grade may be reduced for each unexcused absence at the discretion of the instructor. If so, you will be advised by the instructor concerning your options for the course.
