Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Prerequisite: TECM 1349, minimum grade of "C"

Course Description

Computer-assisted application in integrating engineering graphics and manufacturing.  Emphasis on the conversion of a working drawing using computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) software and related input and output devices translating into machine codes.

Student Performance

 Computer-assisted applications in integrating engineering graphics and manufacturing. Emphasis on the conversion of working drawings using computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) software and related input and output devices translating into machine codes.
 
End-of-Course Outcomes: Describe the history and application of CAD/CAM systems; describe the CAD/CAM components; apply CAD/CAM software and related input and output devices, and interface CAD/CAM to machines.
  1. Understand and apply proper shop safety practices.
  2. Understand and apply mathematical formulas for layout and fabrication.
  3. Know and apply geometric construction principles.
  4. Know and be able to lay out orthographic projections.
  5. Use orthographic projections to develop templates and blueprints
  6. Draw patterns using parallel line construction, radial line construction, and triangulation.

Expected Student Behavior

Notebook & Class Equipment

Students are recommended to take notes during lectures and should maintain a class notebook containing handouts and reference materials. Students shall furnish personal protective equipment including safety glasses and have their own personal hand tools similar to those on the department tool list.  Students shall bring paper and a pen or pencil to each class meeting.

 

Shop Policy

Read safety handouts provided, use common sense, maintain safe shop practices, and keep your Lab clean, and orderly. Keep all safety shields/guards, and equipment in place at all times. Notify your Instructor of faulty wiring/equipment, worn or damaged tools, or missing parts. No horseplay is allowed whatsoever. Academic disciplinary measures will be promptly administered to the offending person(s). Please help the Instructor to maintain order so that he can be free to use his/her time for more effective teaching, and less time housekeeping. We all can enjoy the benefits of an effective and conducive learning environment. Remember to use your safety glasses when entering the shop area.

 

Tools, Equipment, and Clothing

Students shall wear appropriate clothing to perform any work task assigned. Students at all times must wear an approved shirt with the Amarillo College logo during class meetings.  Failure to wear an approved shirt will result in an absence for the entire meeting. Tools and equipment specified for this class and any preliminary class in the curriculum are to be furnished by the student. Failure to dress for work or bring needed equipment will count as an absence. All tools should be properly used and cared for, thus allowing for the longevity and safety of both the user and the tool.

 

Stealing, vandalism, or pilferage will be dealt with severely!! No drugs, tobacco, drinks, or food allowed!

 

All students are expected to follow the Amarillo College Students Code of Conduct. Any violation of this Code will be dealt with appropriately.

Additional Information:

Late assignments will be scored accordingly and will not exceed 50% of the designated grade.  Project work (hands-on) may be made up during regular lab times but will be scored accordingly and will not exceed 50% of the designated grade.  There is no make-up of class exercises or lectures.

Attendance

Professional industrial workers understand the importance of being on time and having the required tools, books, and materials needed to successfully complete the job.  Professionals understand the need to follow rules and regulations established by the employer, government regulatory agencies, and insurance companies. You will be graded accordingly.

Full attendance and participation in class and lab are regarded as a requirement and an obligation for learning.  Students will be allowed to make up one excused absence with the prior approval of the instructor.  Four absences will result in a failing grade for the semester, this equals 25% of class missed.  Any absences or tardiness need to be emailed to the instructor prior to the scheduled class meeting for consideration of the exemption.

The class will begin promptly at the designated time for class, any student arriving after this time will be counted tardy and lose pts. for the meeting.  Students must return from breaks promptly and on time. Students must be released by the instructor before leaving the class or lab meeting.

Students must legibly sign in and out of class and lab to be counted present.
