Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

The Tutoring for Success policy applies to any student whose grade or performance in the course falls below a departmentally determined minimum threshold. In either of those cases, the instructor will direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. Under this policy, the instructor will follow specific departmental guidelines governing the use, duration, and grade component of the tutoring need.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) An exploration of principles, methods, and materials for teaching music, movement, visual arts, and dramatic play through process-oriented experiences to support divergent thinking for children birth through age eight.

Textbooks

Mayesky:  Creative Activities for Young Children, 11th edition, 2015, Cengage Learning.  Textbook is bundled with Blackboard Edition Mindlink at the AC Bookstore.  Mindlink is necessary in order to view all of the publisher content including the teach source videos.

Supplies

 Students will need access to a computer and the internet.

Expected Student Behavior

Students are expected to follow all Amarillo College policies and procedures.

Grading Criteria

A maximum of 800 points will be possible.

Grade point distribution:

Creative Arts Notes                      80 points

22 exams                                    220 points

E-portfolio/Blog                          400 points

Creative Art Lesson                    100 points

                     TOTAL                   800 points

Final Grades:

720 - 800 = A

639 - 719 = B

558 - 638 = C

477 - 557 = D

Below 476 = F

 

 

  • Creative Arts Notes (80 points total) Each note is worth 10 points.

Students will demonstrate the knowledge gained in the course every week.

  • 22 exams (220 points total)  Each exam is worth 10 points.

Tests may consist of multiple choice, short answer, and/or matching.  All exams will be taken online.

  • Creative Art E-portfolio/Blog (400 points total)  Each publication is worth 100 points.

Students will develop an E-portfolio of ideas for how to incorporate creative arts into a child's development.

Creative Art Lesson

  • Plan a developmentally appropriate lesson plan the incorporates creative arts for the developmental growth of children.  Include lesson plan and materials for the activity.

Attendance

This class is online for 8 weeks.  The class opens on Monday, October 24, and the first class is Monday, October 24.

  • Log in frequently.  Complete and submit assignments and exams by the due date.
  • Complete the notes assigned chapters in the book.
  • Satisfactorily complete exams with 70% mastery or above.
  • The Introduction activity will verify your course participation for the Census Roster.  It must be completed by October 30, or you may be dropped from the class.
  • Be a team player: dependable, hard working, and helpful.

  • Make-up assignments/exams are at the instructor's discretion. Plan ahead so late work will not be a concern.
