Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.
Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Coursework will be based on this textbook, but purchase of the book is not required.
Graphing Calculator: There is a classroom set of TI-Nspire graphing calculators available for your use during class. If you need a calculator outside of school hours, you can check one out from the RHS library or purchase an online subscription for $27.50.

The following Developmental Math topics will be imbedded in this College Algebra course: Fractions; Factoring; Rules for Exponents; Factor expansion: distribution, foil, conjugates; Order of Operations; Radical and Complex Numbers; Completing the Square; and other topics as needed.

Cheating includes, but is not limited to, copying from another student’s paper, using unauthorized sources of information on any assignment, turning in work that is not your own (copied from the solution manual, having someone else do your work, etc.), and allowing someone to cheat. Any student who cheats will receive a grade of zero for that assignment (grade may NOT be dropped or replaced) and/or other disciplinary action as described in the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.
Daily Work: You are expected to participate in all classroom activities. Some activities will be graded, and some will not. Daily work can be completed in collaboration with your classmates.
Quizzes: Quizzes will be given over each section. Quizzes will be completed independently.
Exams: You will have five major exams, one for each unit of the course.
Final Exam: The dual credit course requires a final exam, and the final exam is separate from the semester exam for your high school. Exemptions to taking semester exams do not apply to the dual credit course final exam.
The final exam is comprehensive, and it must be completed in two hours.
Other Information: Before you ask, I do not give extra credit. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board sets the topics that must be covered in order to receive credit for a course. The instructor sets the pace to meet these requirements. Any student having trouble maintaining the pace should seek extra help from the instructor and/or a tutor.
Grading Criteria/Scale:
Daily Work 10%, Quizzes 20%, Tests 50%, Final Exam........20%
Please note: The grade for your college course may be different from the grade for your high school course.
The deadline for withdrawing from this class is November 28. If you stop attending class and your average drops below a 60 and you do not officially drop the course by this deadline, you will receive an F for the course. Please talk with me before you get to this point.
