Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.
Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) DESCRIPTION OF COURSE (as in catalog):
This course is designed to meet the needs of students and professionals who are interested in mastering fundamental, vendor-independent networking concepts. Knowing how to install, configure, and troubleshoot a computer network is a highly marketable and exciting skill. This course introduces the fundamental building blocks that form a modern network, such as hardware, topologies, and protocols, along with an introduction to the OSI model. It then provides in-depth coverage of the most important concepts in contemporary networking, such as TCP/IP, Ethernet, wireless transmission, virtual networks, cloud computing, segmentation, security, and troubleshooting.
You will be prepared to select the network design, hardware, and software that best fits your environment. You will also have the skills to build a network from scratch and maintain, upgrade, troubleshoot, and manage an existing network. Finally, you will be well-prepared to pass CompTIA’s Network+ N10-008 certification exam.
Through hands-on activities and case projects, you will be able to apply networking concepts you learn to real world scenarios. Readings, labs, and videos all support the readings and “In the News” assignments encourage students to stay current.
Those seeking to pass the CompTIA Network+ certification exam will find the course approach and content especially helpful. All Network+ N10-008 exam objectives are covered in the course.

The opportunity to make-up an exam and/or lab will be determined by the circumstances of each individual, permitted at the discretion of the instructor.
The time and place for a make-up test will be determined by the instructor.
Students who miss gradable coursework due to an absence will be given the opportunity to make up the missed work, with the exception of the final exam. The final exam may be taken early if prior arrangements have been made. It is the responsibility of the student to contact the instructor as soon as possible after return to class to arrange to make up missed coursework.
INSTRUCTOR'S STATEMENT: As your instructor, I am always willing to discuss your grades with you and explain how your grade was determined. If a grading error has been made on my part, I am always willing to correct the error.
The purpose of this course is to prepare students to successfully pass the CompTIA Network+ certification – successfully taking this exam (N10-008) prior to the Final Exam can be used as a replacement grade for the Final Exam. Passing the exam will be considered sufficient demonstration of course concepts and mastery.
** This is an accelerated 8 week course and requires substantial work outside of class.
