Amarillo College Tutoring for Success Policy:

Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.

Administrative Drop Policy

Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016

Student Withdrawal Procedures

Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.

NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) Prerequisites

Course Description

Introduction to Cloud computing from a business and technical perspective, including Cloud concepts, services, architecture, system integration, connectivity, data center migration, administration, security, compliance, and technical support. Coverage includes preparation for industry certifications. Topics may adapt to changes in industry practices.

No Textbook is required for this course.

Students will need to enroll in the Microsoft Learn and Skillable platforms.  Directions will be provided in the Blackboard course. All learning and lab materials will be included free of charge to the student. 

Students will gain an overall understanding of cloud computing concepts, independent of specific technical roles. This course provides a detailed overview of cloud concepts, core services, security, architecture, and support.

  • Access to PC Computers is available in the CIS Department and Ware Underground Lab at Amarillo College.

Student Performance

End-of-Course Outcomes:

  • Identify the essential characteristics of Cloud services, including: on-demand self-service, broad network access, resource pooling, rapid elasticity, and measured service
  • Describe the organizational capabilities relevant for realizing Cloud benefits, including adequate planning, required IT skills, gradual/staged migration pathways, identifying critical success factors, etc.
  • Describe the steps that lead to the successful adoption of Cloud and the implications for organizations
  • Describe data center infrastructure management (DCIM) processes and solutions, including the software and hardware tools used to organize and manage resources
  • Create, manage, and scale a virtual server in a Cloud environment
  • Describe Cloud maintenance operations including: security patches, updating Cloud elements, and backup operations
  • Identify business drivers for Cloud computing and assessing their economic impact

At the end of this course the student will receive Microsoft Learn and Skillable Badges and be able to sit for the AZ-900: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals and SC-900: Microsoft Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals exams.

Expected Student Behavior

Students are expected to maintain a high standard of individual honor in their scholastic work. Students who are guilty of cheating, plagiarism, copying, or dishonesty may receive a 0 on an assignment; may be excluded from class with a grade of F; or, in flagrant cases, may be suspended from the College (see Student Rights and Responsibilities).

Students who give another student their files or allow another student to use their work are committing a violation of the Student Code of Conduct.  Students who engage in this unethical behavior risk being subject to disciplinary action in accordance with College policy.

The Faculty of the CIS Program reserve the right to ask a student to verify any portion of a test or assignment by reproducing any specific section or the entire test/assignment in question.

Any action that compromises the computer systems at Amarillo College, including but not limited to hacking or cracking, can result in a grade of "F" in this course and possible further disciplinary action.

All work is provided for each student at the beginning of the semester. It is your responsibility to ensure all work is completed by the scheduled dates.

** This is an online 8-week course and requires substantial work from students.

Attendance

  • All Week 1 assignments must be completed by Sunday of Week 1 (October 29 @ 10:00 PM), in order to be considered "Present" in the course. Failure to complete all assignments by this date may lead to an administrative drop from the course.
  • Check your email daily.  The email address used by your instructor is the @amarillocollege.com email issued to each AC student.
  • Complete assignments by the scheduled date/time.  There is a "no late work" policy, except in extreme circumstances.
  • Attendance for on-campus classes will be taken during each class period. Attendance for online classes will be monitored by access log-in dates recorded in Blackboard and external sites.  Excessive absence and lack of participation may result in failure of the course.
  • Students should plan on spending a minimum of 12-15 hours per week on this course. Actual amounts will vary depending on weekly assignments and topic complexity. Please schedule your time, so that you are able to devote the appropriate energy and effort to achieve success in this course.
