Tutoring for Success applies to any student whose overall performance in the course falls below 75%. The instructor will create the task in the Student Engagement Portal (Watermark) to direct the student to the appropriate tutoring service, which may be faculty- or SI-led, discipline-specific, and/or general. The tutoring service assigned, the due date for when the tutoring must be completed, and the amount of tutoring required are at the discretion of the instructor. Additionally, the task will alert the student’s success team. Students who do not fulfill the assigned tutoring task may be subject to program- and course-specific penalties that could result in a grade reduction and/or in not being allowed to progress in the course until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.
Students who do not attend class on or prior to the census date will be administratively dropped. Effective Fall, 2016
Students who wish to withdraw from a course must complete all steps indicated on the Academic Withdrawal Request form by the course withdrawal deadline.
NOTE: Students who are attending Texas institutions of higher education, for the first time fall 2007 and later, may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career. This withdrawal limitation does not include dual credit or developmental classes (Senate Bill 1231 Rule 4.10.) For more information on Drop and Withdrawal Policies, please visit the Registrar's Office Web site.

Online Course
You will use the online textbook Vistas 6th edition that was used for the Amarillo College Spanish 1411 course. (When you buy the access code to this book, it is good for 36 months.) (We will cover chapters 7-12 in Span 1412.) You do NOT need to purchase anything more unless you did not take Span 1411 from Profesora Barton at Amarillo College. If that is the case, you may purchase an online access code from the Amarillo College Bookstore, ISBN 978-1-62680-646-7. (We also use this acces code for Span 2311, covering chapters 13 - 18.)
You are NOT required to buy any additional book or materials this semester. You may choose to purchase a hard-bound copy of the book for convenience, but keep in mind that all information necessary for completing this course is found online through the access code.
Instructions for accessing the online book, redeeming your access code, and creating your account can be found at: https://www.vhlcentral.com/screencasts/student
You will need speakers or a headset to listen to audio portions of various assignments. You are required to have a microphone to record your voice and a camera for paired videochat assignments. Paired speaking assignments will not be accepted via any platform other than the vhlcentral.com website.
Tests, Assignments and Partner Work:
In addition to writing and listening, some assignments require students to video or record themselves speaking in Spanish. Additionally, students will partner with classmates (via live partner chat) for many assignments to practice speaking in a natural, real-life context.
Department Tutoring Policy:
If a student's overall grade falls below 75%, the student is required to attend tutoring per the instructor’s directions. If the student does not respond (either to Profesora Barton or to the tutor) to the instructor's requirement for tutoring, he/she will be locked out of VHL and will not be readmitted until the tutoring requirement has been satisfied.
