Department Instructor, Rochelle Fouts

Rochelle Fouts is an Instructor and Program Coordinator in the Education Department and has been with Amarillo College since 2010, starting out as a mentor in the Higher Ed Grant  through the Children's Learning Institute at the University of Texas, Houston Health Science Center.  She started as a full-time faculty member in the CDEC/EDUC Department in 2011.  Rochelle took a brief stint off from AC to move to inner-city Detroit to work a martial arts ministry with her husband, Shawn, for almost 2 years then returning to Amarillo.  Before coming to Amarillo College, she worked in the Teacher Education Department as a curriculum consultant for The McGraw-Hill Companies, a Mathematics Curriculum Coordinator for Edison Schools, Inc, and was also a Kindergarten and 1st Grade Teacher both in Wichita, KS, and Dallas, TX.  Rochelle graduated from Friends University in Wichita, KS, with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1996 and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree in 2001.

Department Instructor, Trena Rider

Trena Rider is an Instructor and Program Coordinator for Child Development/Early Childhood. She graduated from Texas Tech in 1998 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. In 2013, she received a Master’s Degree in Education from West Texas A&M. Her educational experience includes work in early childhood labs, pre-school and elementary classrooms, middle school math and social studies, and coaching.   From 2010 to 2014, she ran the Intramural Sports Program, then the Mentoring Program at Amarillo College.  Trena is excited to share her experience and love of children with our students at AC.

Administrative Assistant, Megan Alfiere

Megan Alfiere is the full-time Administrative Clerk II for Education, Child Development, Social Science, and Psychology since May 2021. First starting as a part-time administrative assistant for Social & Behavioral Science for AC in August of 2019. Megan started taking classes at AC in August of 2020 so she can transfer to Texas A&M Central Texas University in the fall of 2022 for their online Professional Pilot Program to continue her education and receive a bachelors in Aviation Science. Megan is not only an employee/student with AC but also progressing her licensing and ratings as a pilot at a local flight school here at Tradewind Airport. She continuously thanks Amarillo College for such a great learning environment but also the employees who make such an effort to help students as well as their employees each and every day.

Advisor, Margarita Rocha

Margarita Rocha is an Academic Advisor for the Education and Child Development programs. She grew up in Stratford and graduated from West Texas A&M with her B.S. Interdisciplinary Studies Mathematic/ Science (Grades 4-8). While at WT, she was involved in the Hispanic Student Association and was on the President’s Honor Roll. After graduation in 2014, she taught 8th grade science at Travis Middle School for 7 years. At Travis Middle School, Margarita was involved in the Site-Based Committee and was awarded Teacher of the Year for the campus for 2017-18 & 2018-19. While teaching, she obtained her Master’s in Education Leadership through West Texas A&M in 2017. Now she is excited to have joined the Amarillo College Family!

Adjunct, Marie Manley

Marie Manley has 39 years of teaching experience at the elementary level and was a teacher in PPCD (Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities) at Canyon ISD for 23 years.  She has also taught 5th, 7th, and 8th grade Reading, multi-age special education resource, and elementary age children with behavioral disorders. Ms. Manley has teacher certifications in elementary, kindergarten, early childhood, emotionally disturbed, and mid-management.  Her Master of Education and Bachelor of Science degrees were both completed at West Texas State University. She has been an adjunct instructor at Amarillo College since 1999. She is a highly regarded presenter for local and state conferences and has also held various leadership roles in several professional organizations.  Ms. Manley believes in a developmentally appropriate, fun, active, hands-on curriculum for children which parallels with that of the Child Development Department of Amarillo College. She especially enjoys working with future caregivers of young children and assisting them in developing similar philosophies.

Adjunct, Chelsea Munkres

Chelsea Munkres is currently teaching Kindergarten at Hillside Elementary with Canyon ISD.  Previously, she has been a mentor Coach with the Texas School Ready Project through the Children’s Learning Institute at the University of Texas Houston, and before that she was the Director at the Child Development Lab School.  Chelsea received her B.S. and M.S. in Human Development and Family Studies at Texas Tech University, where she focused on attachment theory and the effects of childhood cancer on siblings of children with cancer. Prior to joining the AC family in January 2011, Chelsea was a Child Life Intern at Miller Children’s Hospital in Long Beach, CA where she worked to meet the psychosocial needs of pediatric patients and their families, and she was a Social Worker for foster children here in Amarillo.

Adjunct, Marilyn Stone

Marilyn Stone is an adjunct instructor teaching education courses face-to-face and online. She spent 15 years as a Family and Consumer Education teacher in Abernathy ISD and served as the Career & Technical Education and Title I Specialist at Region 17 Education Service Center in Lubbock for 22 years. At Region 17, she worked closely with teachers, counselors and administrators to build programs for student success. Marilyn has a background in student learning styles, brain-based learning, differentiated instruction and meeting the learning needs of students. Since retiring she has held temporary positions with Region 16 in Adult Education and grant management. Marilyn is a three-time graduate of Texas Tech University with a B.S., M.S. and Ph.D.

Adjunct, Mary Scobey

Mary Scobey is an adjunct instructor for the education department.  She has a BS in Elementary Education and an M.Ed with a Principal certificate from West Texas A&M University.  She began her education career teaching in elementary and middle school and was an administrator for Amarillo ISD for 20 years.  She currently works with Region 16 as an Education Specialist in Federal Programs.   She enjoys working with students as they prepare for the exciting challenges of teaching.
