Mission Statement and Philosophy

The First Bank Southwest Center (FBSWC) is designed to provide individuals at Amarillo College and the Amarillo Community with opportunities to participate in quality fitness and recreational programs through a comprehensive range of services. FBSWC is also an intercollegiate volleyball venue that is home to the Badger Volleyball team and serves as the venue for athletic games, events and practices.

House Rules for the FBSW Center

House rules have been established to ensure maximum enjoyment and usage of the FBSW Center. As members, your constant cooperation is expected and appreciated.

Membership Cards

Students and members must scan their membership cards or phone app card upon entering the FBSW Center. Members are required to bring their ID and will not be allowed in without it or verification of membership in our system. A valid form of ID (includes any form of government issued ID, state ID, driver's license, passport, permanent resident card, high school ID, foreign passport) and current digital photo of all members is required for verification of membership cards. A photo will be taken and added to membership records in our membership database.

Guests

Guests must purchase a day pass to use the facility.

Events at FBSW Center

AC Clear Bag Policy

AC has implemented a clear bag policy for events held at the FirstBank Southwest Center. This policy is designed to enhance safety and ensure an enjoyable experience for event attendees by restricting the size and type of bags permitted.

Children/Teens

The following age restrictions apply to children/teens:

  • 16 years or older - Allowed unrestricted use of the facility with membership.
  • 15 years and under - Must be supervised by an adult guardian (adult guardian must be over age 21).

Workout Spaces (weight room, cardio room, group exercise rooms):

  • Teens ages 13-15 may use workout spaces and must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. 
  • Children aged 12 and under are not allowed in the workout spaces at any time. 

Gymnasiums/Courts:

  • Teens ages 12-15 can use the gymnasiums during open courts when a supervising adult is in the facility.  
  • Children aged 8-11 can use the gymnasium during open courts and during scheduled events/activities with a supervising adult or coach/trainer on the court with the child.
  • Children participating in scheduled practices, activities, classes, camps or activities with adult supervision are allowed.

Unsupervised Children:

  • Unsupervised children/teens ages 15 and under will be asked to leave the facility. Infants and toddlers are not allowed in any workout spaces or on courts.  

Shoes

Shoes are required in the FBSW Center. Absolutely no hard soled or black marking shoes are allowed on the gym floor. Court shoes are recommended. Please check shoes for rocks and mud before entry. Open-toed shoes are not allowed in the weight room.

Lost and Found

Lost/found articles should be turned in to the front desk. Front desk staff will log in lost items and lock them up. Any un-claimed items will be taken to campus police.  Members/guests are not allowed to leave personal belongings at the front desk. Amarillo College is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Messages

Members may be paged to the phone only in case of an emergency. Written messages may be taken and communicated to members if possible.

No Smoking Or Tobacco

Smoking, vaping, chewing or dipping tobacco, and electronic cigarettes are prohibited in the FBSW Fitness Center.

Food and Drinks

No food or drinks (other than water in a screw-topped container) are allowed in any workout spaces. The only exception to this rule is during athletic events, tournaments and other events where the tournament/event director enforces the food/drink policy.

Disturbances

All disturbances will be reviewed and handled by the FBSW Manager and Executive Director. FBSW has a zero tolerance policy for unsportsmanlike behavior, fighting, profanity, or any other behavior deemed inappropriate by FBSW staff. Conduct of this type is grounds for immediate expulsion from the facility and revocation of membership.

Revocation of Membership

FBSW Fitness Center reserves the right to revoke any membership for any reason it deems necessary.

The FBSW Fitness Center will be open during the following days and times (soft reopening hours will vary):

Holiday hours will be determined by the FBSW Center Manager and communicated in advance.

After Hours Usage Policy

  • All after-hours scheduling requests must be approved by the FBSWC Director. Approved after-hours requests of the FBSWC must be scheduled through the FBSWC Coordinator at (806) 345-5515.  
  • Only AC employees may request the use of the FBSWC after-hours. The approved employee must be present and will be held responsible for the proper supervision of all non-AC personnel utilizing the facility.  The supervising AC employee must wear an AC ID badge to identify themselves.  
  • Scheduling and key checkout requests should take place at least 3 days in advance to ensure sufficient time to process the request during normal business hours. Key requests to the facility must be approved by the FBSWC Director. If approved, FBSWC staff will submit the request to Physical Plant. Keys to FBSWC cannot be loaned out, shared or borrowed.    
  •  Any applicable facility use fees will be assessed when scheduling occurs. Normal rental fees apply to after-hours usage except for Athletics Department related usage and AC sponsored events. 
  • FBSWC staff will notify Physical Plant, Campus Police and AC Custodial staff of all approved after-hours events and reservations. Only approved scheduling requests will receive facility Heating and Air Conditioning services. HVAC requests must be submitted to Physical Plant by the FBSWC scheduler.
  • All FBSWC policies must be followed and are enforced during after-hours use.

  • Areas for after-hours use are limited ONLY to the Gymnasiums and public restrooms. Access to workout spaces, locker rooms, showers and other non-gymnasium areas is prohibited.
    EXCEPTION: Supervised Athletics Department related usage and AC sponsored events.
  • Facility doors must remain locked, at all times, after-hours. Doors may not be propped open and left unattended. The approved AC employee must be onsite and present to allow and monitor guest access into the facility. All spectators and children, of after-hours events, must be supervised and remain with the responsible AC employee.
  • Use of the public restrooms must be coordinated with AC Custodial staff on-duty to avoid privacy violation issues and cleaning schedule interruptions.  

Sound System

FM 90 is the only station that the FBSW Center plays on the radio. No private radios or CD players without headphones are allowed. For fitness classes, the teacher may use a sound system to play music through the sound system or they may use their own system.

Cardio, Weight Room and Functional Fitness Space Regulations

  1. Share the use of the equipment with others.
  2. See our published dress code for proper attire while using the facility.    
  3. No jeans, pants with zippers, or belts are allowed in the weight room.
  4. Keys, pens, pencils, or sharp objects are not allowed in pockets while using the weight equipment. 
  5. Read instructions thoroughly before using machines and use equipment at your own risk.
  6. Do not slam or drop weights unless using bumper plates in a safe manner. Return all weights to the appropriate racks. Return equipment to proper racks.
  7. Stow duffle bags/back packs in lockers or provided cubie storage. Items should not come into contact with equipment.    
  8. Only stereos with headphones/earbuds are allowed.
  9. Shoes are required. Open-toed shoes are not allowed.
  10. Refrain from unnecessary loud and annoying verbal sounds.    
  11. Feel free to ask for assistance if needed.
  12. No leaving towels, personal belongings and/or equipment in areas to "reserve your spot" on or around gym/fitness equipment.

Athletics

Volleyball scheduled practices and games will take precedence when scheduling the gymnasiums. Volleyball, Baseball and Cross Country athletes will be using the workout facilities for physical conditioning. During athletic conditioning team workouts, spaces may be shared with members as equipment is available and as is practical. Workout sessions for athletics may be scheduled for exclusive use if necessary.

Gymnasiums

  1. Nets may be set up and taken down by FBSW Center faculty/staff only.  
  2. Reserved courts have priority. Courts may be reserved through the front desk or online through the rec.actx.edu portal.
  3. Courts may be reserved for daily use, tournaments and special events.  Amarillo College Events take priority over non-AC events. Court reservations may be cancelled to accommodate AC events. See Rental Procedures and Guidelines and Court Rental Procedures documents for detailed rental policies. 
  4. The gym divider will be kept in the up position when not being used.  Members may request that the divider be lowered when appropriate. 

Audio and Video Regulations

  1. FBSW Center members are not allowed to touch, or adjust, the TVs or any component of the Audio/Video setup in the cabinets.
  2. Private sound systems without ear buds are not allowed.
  3. Televisions may be listened to by downloading an app to personal devices.
  4. Read the instructions of each machine before use. 

Lockers

  1. The daily use lockers may be used for storage of personal items. FBSW Center is not responsible for lost/stolen items. Any locks used on day-use lockers must be provided by the user. Items left in day-use lockers must be removed by closing time each day. Lockers not vacated by the deadline will have the items removed. These items will be bagged and stored as lost and found. Members may pick these up under the supervision of an employee.
  2. Contact the front desk to reserve a locker for the month. Locker Rentals may be purchased at the front desk only.
  3. When rentable lockers are full, members will be put on a waiting list and will be notified of an available locker.
  4. Monthly locker rentals will be auto charged at the first of each month until the user notifies the front desk staff of the cancellation. Notification must be given three days before the end of the month.

Faculty/Staff Locker Room

The Faculty/Staff Locker Rooms are for Amarillo College, Full time benefits eligible faculty and staff only. All other AC employees (part-time, student employees and donor employees) will use the public locker room. The code for the doors will be given out at the front desk.

Public Locker Room

Members may rent or use day lockers.

Locker Theft

It is highly recommended that patrons lock their belongings in the lockers. In the case of theft in the locker room, contact the front desk staff and campus police will deal with the situation. FBSW Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Locker Room/Showers/Restrooms-General

Both men's and women's locker rooms share a common Shower/Restroom area. Shower use is first come first serve. Towels, soap, shampoo etc. must be provided by members.

Weather Issues

If the campus closes down because of the weather, FBSW Center will close also.
