Hereford, Texas, 45 miles southwest of Amarillo, is named for the cattle that were brought to the US in 1898. In fact, because of its many feed yards, Hereford is known as the cattle capital of the world.
Opened in 2013, Amarillo Colleges Everett and Mabel McDougal Hinkson Memorial Campus serves the Deaf Smith County and surrounding community at its spacious and modern facility on 15th Street. In addition to a technical training lab and a comfortable commons area, the Hereford campus boasts 13 classrooms, 2 science labs, and 14 offices.
Academic classes offered at Hereford are primarily core courses required for an associate degree or technical certificate. Academic classes include Basic Academic Skills, Grammar and Writing, Composition, Mathematics, College Algebra and Reading Techniques, as well as History, Psychology and Business courses.
The campus is also home to two Continuing Education programs - the eight-week Commercial Driver License and Certified Nursing Assistant programs.
From June through August, several of the AC Kids College Camps and Classes find a home at the Hinkson Campus.
