Occupational Therapy Assistant Application Considerations
Applicants to the Occupational Therapy Assistant program must be able to meet performance standards.
- Read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Have auditory ability to be able to assess patients' needs, and be able to see with acuity not less than that required for a Texas driver's license (20/40). Corrective lenses and hearing aids are allowed.
- Be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted.

TEAS Cumulative Score Range
Program applicants must complete the TEAS Exam. Exam results must be within the application period (Jan-May) of the application year. Composite score content areas include Math, Reading, Science, and English & Language Usage.

Casper Test
- 90th – 100th percentile = 20
- 80th – 89th percentile = 18
- 70th – 79th percentile = 16
- 60th – 69th percentile = 14
- 50th – 59th percentile = 12
- 40th – 49th percentile = 10
- 30th – 39th percentile = 8
- 20th – 29th percentile = 6
- 10th – 19th percentile = 4
- 1st – 9th percentile = 2
- <1st percentile = 0

Prerequisite Classes
- ENG 1301
- SPCH 1315, 1318, or 1321
- BIOL 3401
- PSYC 2391 SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY (No substitutions accepted)
- Language/Philosophy/Culture OR Creative Arts from approved list (a 3-credit hour course)
Prerequisite Points
- Grade of "A" for courses = 10 points
- Grade of "B" for courses = 7 points
- Grade of "C" for courses = 3 points
Points per course are multiplied by the course credit hour. All points are added together. Max score is 200 points.
Example:
English A at 3 credit hours is 10 x 3 = 30 points.
A&P B at 4 credit hours is 7 x 4 = 28 points.
The CASPER assessment is required only for applicants whose total points are in the top percentage of the program’s initial application scoring process. Applicants who are selected to proceed will receive an official email notification from the Program by May 19, 2026, with details on the next steps.
Applicants who do not receive this invitation are not required to complete CASPER."
For Amarillo College, the total student fee will be $70 — this includes a $50 base fee and a $20 distribution fee.
We’ll have two testing dates available for students:
- Tuesday, May 19th at 7:00 p.m. (Central Time)
- Saturday, May 23rd at 12:00 p.m. (Central Time)
Program Requirements Once Accepted
You do not need to complete the following Immunizations and Screening Requirements until you are accepted into the program.
Once you are accepted, you are required to have the following:
