Physical Therapist Assistant Grads Perfect on Licensure Exam

Physical Therapist AssistantThe Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program at Amarillo College got a welcome shot in the arm this summer when all 14 of its May 2016 graduates passed the requisite national licensure examination on their first attempt.

While close to 90 percent of the Program’s graduates typically pass the National Physical Therapy Exam on their first attempt, the 2016 cohort’s collective achievement represents the Program’s first 100-percent pass rate since 2010.

“We’re so proud of the accomplishments of the entire class,” Program Director Dr. Sue Grady, PT, DPT, said.

Grady and Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education Shawn Palmer, PTA, assumed faculty leadership of the PTA Program in January of 2016.

“We’re very excited about all these students’ future careers in the field of physical therapy,” Grady said.

AC’s Physical Therapist Assistant Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), and the national exam is designed to assess candidates’ basic entry-level competence after graduation from an accredited program.

AC’s PTA Program employs a competitive application process because no more than 20 students can be accepted into the two-year Program annually.
