PROGRAM MISSION AND GOALS

 

The Radiation therapy program is a unique health care program providing a valuable resource for the community to educate personnel to treat cancer. In keeping with the mission of Amarillo College, the Radiation therapy program has a mission To provide a comprehensive curriculum that will enable each graduate to perform the duties and responsibilities of an entry level radiation therapist. Consequently, accomplishing this mission is measured and evaluated to the degree to which the program achieves the following goals:

 

            Goal 1: Monitor Program Effectiveness

             Student outcomes:

  •          Students will complete the program and take the ARRT certification exam.
  •          Program will assess graduate satisfaction.
  •          Program will assess employer satisfaction.
  •          Program will assess employment rate.            

            Goal 2: Produce graduates who are clinically competent.

               Student outcomes

  •          Students will provide appropriate radiation safety for patients and self.
  •          Program will assess student clinical performance using various evaluation tools
  •          Program will assess employer satisfaction

            Goal 3: Produce graduates who can exhibit effective critical thinking and problem solving skills.

            Student outcomes

  •          Students will demonstrate satisfactory critical thinking and problem solving skills as assessed by the clinical evaluation tools.
  •          Students will demonstrate satisfactory critical thinking and problem solving skills as assessed by various academic evaluation tools.         

            Goal 4: Produce graduates who can express communication skills.

            Student outcomes

  •          Students will demonstrate verbal skills when relating to patients.
  •          Students will demonstrate written communication skills when relating to physicians or other medical staff.      

            Goal 5: Produce graduates who will demonstrate professional development.

              Student outcomes

  •          Students will be able to demonstrate conduct as outlines in the ASRT "Code of Ethics".
  •          Students will be able to differentiate between all discipline-related professional organizations.
