The Amarillo College Board of Regents reelected its incumbent officers but a vacancy on the Board was created when longtime Regent John Hicks tendered his resignation at the May 20th Board meeting at AC’s Moore County Campus in Dumas.
Hicks, a Regent since 2003 and a past chairman of the Board, cited his move from Amarillo to Pilot Point as the catalyst for his resignation.
“John Hicks provided outstanding leadership and exceptional service to Amarillo College for more than a decade,” Board Chairman Don Nicholson said. “We’re certainly sorry to see him go. He will be missed, but we bid him a very fond farewell and wish him nothing but the absolute best.”
Hicks, former president and chief executive officer of Baptist St. Anthony’s Health System, leaves an opening on the Board that will be filled by special appointment. Nicholson charged Regents Michele Fortunato and Dr. Paul Proffer, vice president of the Board, to head the search for a replacement.
Whomever is selected to fill the vacancy—Hicks’s term expires in 2017—will serve until the 2015 May election, at which point the designee may choose to file for election to serve the remainder of Hicks’s term.
Persons interested in being appointed to Hicks’s seat on the AC Board of Regents should submit a letter of intent and a résumé no later than Monday, June 16 to the attention of Brenda Sadler in the Amarillo College President’s Office, P.O. Box 447, Amarillo, Texas, 79178.
