Our History

Amarillo College's STEM Research Center, unveiled in September 2018, is a nearly 12,000-square-foot facility designed to enhance student engagement in scientific research. The center houses advanced equipment, including an FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) and an LC/MS (Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry) instrument, providing students with hands-on experience in various scientific disciplines.

In 2021, the Aspen Institute recognized Amarillo College as a "Rising Star" institution, placing it among the top five community colleges nationwide for its efforts to improve student success. In 2023, AC was named recipient of the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence. These accolades highlight the college's commitment to fostering a culture of care and academic excellence, with the STEM Research Center playing a pivotal role in these initiatives.
