Employment opportunities are excellent for graduates of the Fire Academy. There are consistent job openings at fire departments across the state due to departmental growth, attrition and retirement.
Firefighters can expect starting salaries to range from $52,000 to $80,000 depending on the area of Texas the department is located in. Larger metropolitan areas usually have higher salaries due to competition for new applicants.
Smaller departments may pay less, but the cost of living tends to be less in those areas, so it’s important to keep that in mind when comparing starting salaries.
Salary increases may be in place at many fire departments for: additional certifications, military service, bilingual capabilities, paramedic certification, etc.
