The Fire Protection Technology program at Amarillo College offers cost-effective and comprehensive training that meets the most stringent regulatory standards. The program meets or exceeds requirements of the Texas Commission on Fire Protection Standards and The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

Amarillo College’s First Responders Academy, which opened in 2024, serves as a unique and essential hub for Fire Protection Technology, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Criminal Justice, and Law Enforcement training.
By bringing these critical public-safety disciplines together under a single roof, the Academy fosters collaborative cross-training opportunities that are crucial to the future of first responder training.
The state-of-the art facility rests on AC’s Plains Boulevard Campus – in close proximity to Amarillo ISD’s AmTech Career Academy.

Job opportunities are available in municipal/county fire departments, Emergency Services Districts (ESD’s), or industrial, airport and even the National Forest service. Depending on the level of continued education achieved, career paths can include: fire chief, arson investigation, public information officer, and more.
