Prospective candidates for admission to the ADN Program options are required to take a standardized admission assessment examination called the HESI Admission Assessment Exam.  This exam is utilized to ensure the admission of applicants who are most likely to succeed in a program of professional nursing and to provide valuable information to potential candidates about the need for additional academic preparation or support to be successful in a professional nursing program.

Three specific content exams, which are a part of the HESI Admission Assessment Exam, are administered to all prospective program applicants.  These content exams include:

  1. Math
  2. Reading Comprehension
  3. Vocabulary and General Knowledge
  4. Anatomy & physiology (not counted in points)

The HESI Admission Assessment Exam can only be scheduled in the Nursing Office on the West Campus of Amarillo College in Jones Hall, Room 251.  Prospective program applicants must attend an Advising Session and pay for the exam on the Evolve Elsevier website prior to being scheduled for a date and time to take the exam.

The HESI Admission Assessment Exam must be taken in the Amarillo College West Campus Computing Center located in Building D on the West Campus.  An appointment card will be issued at the time that the HESI Admission Assessment Exam is scheduled in the Nursing  Office.

The HESI Admission Assessment Exam for the ADN Program at AC is a three-hour computerized exam.  At the end of the exam, potential applicants will be provided a score sheet with the score achieved on each of the three required content exams.  A composite score, which will be utilized in the points system to select applicants for admission to one of the three program options, will also be provided.

Prospective applicants must achieve a score of 80 or greater on each of the three required content exams during a single test administration to be eligible to apply for program admission to the ADN Program.  Prospective applicants may take the HESI Admission Assessment Exam one time during each admission period to achieve the eligible scores for application.  The HESI Admission Assessment Exam score is only valid for that admission period.
