TEAS Exam – Frequently Asked Questions

What is the TEAS exam, and who needs to take it?

The TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) exam is required for all Health Science programs. It is used to rank applicants and determine who moves forward to possible admission.  Applicants must take the ATI TEAS Version 7 exam.

The TEAS exam includes the following areas:

  • Science
  • Math
  • Reading
  • English & Language Usage (ELU)

TEAS testing begins on February 5, 2026.

Yes. You must attend one Health Sciences Admission Process meeting before you are allowed to take the TEAS exam and submit a program application.

You may take the TEAS exam online through ATI or in person, depending on availability and your preference. Remote testing does cost more.

$87 for in-person testing
$120 for remote testing

TEAS scores are used to rank applicants and help determine which students advance to possible admission status for Health Science programs.

85%+ = 9 points
75–84.9% = 6 points
65–74.9% = 3 points
<65% = 0 points

90%+ = 6 points
80–89.9% = 4 points
70–79.9% = 2 points

Yes, the minimum acceptable score is 58.7% (Proficient).  Scores below 65% (TEAS 7 Science) and below 70% (TEAS 7 Reading, Math, ELU) will not be awarded any points on their application.

TEAS results are entered into your application by the West Campus Academic Computing Center Supervisor.  

  • NOTE: It is your responsibility to ensure that Amarillo College receives your official TEAS transcript before the deadline if you do not test in person at the Amarillo College campus. 

Your TEAS exam must have been taken within 12 months of the application deadline to be considered valid.

You are only allowed one attempt per admission cycle.

Yes, HESI is no longer accepted as of Fall 2025.
